First Amazon Purchase - Any Tips Please

Hey guys, we've settled on a Chromebook (Asus C434) for the wife and it seems to only be available (officially, and not at an inflated international price) on Amazon.com.au
Having never purchased on Amazon before, I'm wondering if I can get some advice.
Firstly, we're not in a huge rush for this item - Does Amazon ever have specials? and if so, how much of a discount and how often roughly?
Secondly, are there any "new account" tricks you can recommend being our first purchase? (eg small voucher for signing up or something).

Many thanks in advance.
Love this community, and live by it for all my big important purchases!! <3

    Cashrewards/Shopback for x% cashback

Might still be doing a free trial amazon prime but double check on that

    • There's always 30 day trials for Amazon Prime, it's a constant offer.

  • And use a watchlist and check it often
Amazon quite often pricematch other sellers so if in no rush can sometimes get a good price +Cashback as mentioned above

Have you met Camel Camel Camel? Worth plugging your potential purchase in there to check the price history.

Hope you enjoy the C434, I got one too and am really happy.

    • Awesome thanks for the reassurance! We have been 95% certain it will be perfect for us after a fair bit of research.

I’m not an expert and have only made a handful of purchases on Amazon

One thing I didn’t pick up on is the slight distinction between buying an item from Amazon as opposed to buying an item from a merchant using the Amazon Marketplace.

Buying from Amazon you have a deal with them and they will take responsibility for everything.

Buying from a seller that uses the Amazon marketplace for fulfilment means that Amazon can only really assist with delivery queries.

All going well it doesn’t really make any difference but if there's an issue it's more like you're dealing with an eBay dispute with Amazon stepping in if you can’t resolve directly with them after certain timeframes.

  • Wow so much feedback on a simple assistance discussion in <12 hours. Thank you everyone so far! Fantastic community!

  • You will find that the slightly better specced C434TA-AI0033 is now available via a few vendors. This is sometimes listed as 'pre-order' because it appears that units are often not kept in stock due to it being new, expensive and low demand. However when contacted the store will get from the supplier (Asus Aust?) in a couple of days for you.

This model has 8GB RAM which is a very worthwhile addition compared to the base unit 4GB. I'd have liked to see it also with more normal memory such as 64GB but apparently this is not available (yet?). but pragmatically it is easier and cheaper to simply use a micro-sd card to increase memory if required as the C434 has a slot for this.

Places I have seen it listed are:
    CPL computers
    eyo
    SkyComp
    TechBuy

You may also find that other 'official' ASUS suppliers as shown on the ASUS AU site may also be able to quote on this. For example Scorptec or CentreCom.

Personally I'm about to order one from CPL Computers. Although it isn't the absolute cheapest (the C434 is very overpriced in my opinion, but it fits what I'm looking for) I will be able to pick up from a real store and save postage….plus I like the idea of being able to take it back to a physical store if there is a problem.

I hope this is helpful…..I've been waiting months for these C434s to turn up here in Oz!
    Cheers, K
