  • To add to this, Costco has the Meguiar’s Carnauba Wash n Wax for $39.99 for 3.7L. I don’t think it qualifies for its own post as that’s the regular Costco price, but may be something of interest to you if you’re stocking up on Meguiar’s products.

    • It's a little different to the ultimate (yellow) vs Costco wash and wax (purple). I have both and will stick to Costco when it goes on sale for $20.

      • Good to know, thanks.

    • 3.7L took me 7 years to finish it by washing my car fortnightly 20ml each time.

Been waiting on the compound for quite some time too!

  • I do get a bit confused with all the different products. So would the idea to be use compound, then polish, then wax in that order? Would a clay bar go before the compound?

Secondly, how does the ultimate liquid wax differ from the deep cystal carnauba wax?

    • Confused as well

    • Utimate liquid wax isn't a true wax - its a synthetic meaning that it lasts longer than wax but some say it doesn't quite have the same wax 'glow'

I'm no expert but yes clay bar to remove impurities stuck to paint, compound to remove light scratches, polish and wax to finish. But maybe we're all just suckers for multiple products to make the auto product industry more money :D But you'd only do that full process once or twice a year. Otherwise wax every 3-6 months.

Wash, decontamination, clay, compound, polish and wax.

Haven't tried the Liquid Wax before as I'm using Mother's Carnauba but would be interested to know how ULW looks

  • Meguiar's Ultimate Compound(supercheapauto.com.au) $20.99 - RRP $29.99

Damn, I just bought from Repco for $24 :'(

    • -1

Have you used it yet? Even if you have, buy one from SCA, then return it to Repco using Repco receipt. Only be worth it if you're in the area though, no point going out of your way for $3.

      • All that for 3$.

Wash, clay bar, compounding to remove defects if any, polishing, sealant then wax or wax. Enjoy the shine.

I am preparing to do detailing first time and after months if research on whirlpool, youtube and autogeek these are the products I have shortlisted:

Wash Meguiars Gold class with foam cannon and two bucket method
    Clay Meguiars clay kit
    Compound with Meguirs UC
    Polish Autoglym Super Resin Polish
    Wax Collinite 845
    Rockwell DA polisher from Supercheap
Lake Country CCS pads from Waxit

    Orange for compounding
    White for polishing
    Red for Waxing

All cost around $300-350. Wish me luck.

    • That is pretty much the same setup as mine:

Wash Meguiars Gold class with foam cannon and two bucket method
      Clay Meguiars clay kit
      Meguiars Ultimate Compound
Polish Autoglym Super Resin Polish <— I have a bottle of this but will probably skip this step
      Meguiars Ultimate Lquid Wax
Rockwell DA polisher with 5" plate (the stock one is too big imo)
eBay foam pads (copy of the Chemical Guys pad)

I've only use the DA polisher with UC once I think think UC is very safe and not as abrasive as some might think, and it's definitely less abrasive than many of the professional compounds. It still couldn't get rid of some heavier spider webbing on my dark grey car. I also found out later that the Autoglym Super Resin Polish has fillers, which is redundant if you are going to wax it later. If you are just getting rid of fine swirls and not wanting to wax than the Resin Polish it's a good product imo.

to my knowledge, polishing is mandatory after compounding. Also I will be using ultimate compound + polish where there are swirls and scratch marks but just polish only on rest of the car. Does that sound right?

      • link to ebay foam pads?

Best price in some time for Meguiar's Quik Interior Detailer - $16.79 C&C.

This stuff is my go-to for non-leather interior surfaces as it doesn't leave that horrible greasy/shiny coating on plastics etc.

    • Says it can be used on leather as well? Have you tried? Or better to use leather specific product?

      • +1

Haven't tried it on leather as technically it's a cleaner (doesn't condition the leather as well).

I just use Meguiar's gold class rich leather - works a treat for both cleaning and conditioning. And it doesn't make the leather feel oily or slippery.

  • Is the Meguiars snow cannon worth it as a pre wash? Does it make much difference?

    • Grab an unbranded cannon attachment from ebay (can be had for under $30). Just do some research to make sure you get one that can attach to your make and model of pressure washer.

In theory any cleaning you can do without touching/rubbing the paint is better than a hand wash. Whether it's worth it in $ terms - everyone will have their own answer to that.

I haven't used the maguiars liquid so I cant comment on how good it is.

  • Double post

  • Just fyi, you can clay and compound your windshield as well if there are impurities stuck to it. Especially during winter, it will make it easier to see through

  • Their ultimate wheel cleaner is also the cloest thing to magic i have seen in a while. Just spray on leave for 5min to see dirt just dribbling off. Scrub parts that are still dirty then hose off and watch your wheel get transformed

  • My Mazda 323 red colour is gone and polish is gone too.

What's the best to apply to car to make it like new again?

    • Wash, clay, Meguiars ultimate compound, polish by autoglym or Meguiars, wax or sealant plus wax
