New Bed - Where to Buy?

Hi everyone, I'm looking to purchase a new bed in the near future. Any good places that I might not be aware of? HN would be over priced but I'm not sure where else to look. Cheers

  • Mattress + Base? I'm currently looking for a Queen size package and have seen good reviews for Sherman Mattresses. Not sure if anyone here has experience.

  • Look up mattresses in a box. There's a bunch of companies that have sprung up. The idea seems to be that mattresses are traditionally a bit of a scam, and retailers have been able to mark them up a huge amount. One way this has been done is that the same/similar mattresses get sold under different brand names at different stores, with slightly different feature sets, making brand comparisons impossible and generally making it impossible to shop around or know what's good or not, and maxing out the budget to be safe.

Which has left room for online sellers to undercut, and so now every podcast I listen to seems to advertise Casper mattresses, but that's in the US, and there's a bunch of others locally

Or do what I do and sleep on a futon. I got a Muji one (in Japan) and it's great and cost about $200

ZZZ Atelier is the OzBargain mattress of choice.

I recommend HN or Domayne if you want a quality good nights rest.

You can definitely negotiate a good price, dont read too much into their RRP - everything is negotiable.

I've bought 5 beds through HN and Domayne :)

I'm also looking at getting another one hahah

(just to note, I'm a fan of their Sealy range)

I second that! My daughter wanted an "adult-sized" bed for her 12th birthday. My wife got her this one in her favourite colour from Domayne. I believe she paid $120 for the queen size one.

      Mattress was from ZZZ Atelier.

I bought an Ecosa about six months ago. They have an excellent rating and I'm still very happy with my purchase. I had a look at other mattresses in stores and there were a lot of mixed reviews of other brands—some rather bad, eg, toxic foam smell, sagging mattress after a year.

I considered buying a Sealy because they had some good reviews but I soon discovered there was no consistency with many brands possibly because they change their product lines a lot every few years. Sealy also had a lot of bad reviews too so favouring a brand is not logical when buying a mattress. Even a lot of expensive products had bad reviews so spending more doesn't mean you will get a better mattress.

I also had a bad experience with staff at Bedshed and I wouldn't bother buying a bed from a retail store again. Their manager wouldn't accept that I wanted to cancel my order the next day and they lied to me by telling me I couldn't cancel because my order was on it's way. A few weeks later, they said there will be a small delay. 12 weeks later, they said my order was ready to collect. During this time, I rang them and several times and told them I am cancelling my order. Their salesman also lied and told me they will cancel my order and arrange a refund. I eventually got a refund but it was an awful experience to say the least.

My experience with Ecosa was bliss. I ordered Sunday. Mattress arrived Monday afternoon in a box.
