  • is it worth paying the extra $40 and getting TL-PA9020P for $106.xx on ebay?

    • +2

Yes definitely but depending on your usage.
I've got the TL-PA9020P which is connected to a router and a switch with 2 laptops always connected.
On both of the laptops running a speed test, I can average around 55-70mbps if they are both at the same time. If it's only one I can almost get my full internet speed (max is 115 and I can get 112-113 if only one device running the test). Haven't tested any large LAN transfers yet so I cannot comment on that.

Yes it's worth it in my opinion.

        Cheers!

  • why? powerline + switch feeds most needs - 8 port switch less than 30 bucks

Tried power line at my house. Found it shockingly unreliable, even after finding the same circuit for both ends and trying other circuits. Would not recommend.

@Kipps "Would not recommend." For your circumstances perhaps yes, however there are many variables involved, including (among others) the age of your power wiring for example and distance between your units.

Anyway, I have used these TP units for years. Correctly set up (pretty easy), they have been perfect and fit for purpose wherever I have installed them.

    My only advice is:

    1. Ignore the stated speeds on the box. Pure marketing spin. 1000Mbps is a peak speed under controlled laboratory conditions and unlikely to be achieved in a real world situation.

    2. Read the friend;y user guide, however once you have learnt to set them up, you could do it blind. They are dead simple as they are Plug and play, no configuration would be required.

    3. Depending upon distances used, and quality of wiring, these are an ideal quick fix where you cannot or are unable to install ethernet cabling. Great if you are renting.

    4. Subject to wiring distance and quality, they are suitable for most data transfers including audio & video. Caveat: You may experience possible data loss with HD video, however these are definitely hopeless with 4K ultra HD video.

    5. DO NOT plug into power boards or double adapters direct. As these are passthough units, plug power boards or double adapters direct.

    • agree - these days you can get up to 100mb easy on av2

  • Shipping ($13 for Melbourne) kills the deal
