Google/Nest hub not as cheap as the post this morning from a Bunnings in SA. They would not match that, however the person in front of me price matched their hub to $122 using tecobuy.com which satisfied the staff member.

Looked to be 3-5 of most things.

  • you can get LIFX which is cheaper and not required the hub to work

    • Get yeelight which is even cheaper again and also does not need a hub

        Cheaper doesn't always equal reliable.

as long as you have a wifi router that can handle more then 16-20 connections which most consumer routers use limit, otherwise you will end up in troubles there

      • this, and the work around is to get a wifi extender and connect them to that :-)

        • +1

Wait till you have 20+ bulbs you were regret it, i had 12 yeelights before i changed to Hue to replace them

          • @asa79: Cant comment on yeelights,
I have both lifx and hue, I like lifx colors and brightness while hue offers additional features like sensor/geo fencing

            • @Damnsmart: I have two lifx lights in the dunnies I hate the lifx app tho. I have them set up to motion sensor so I don't control them via app anymore

              • @asa79: can you tell me what sensor you use to control them (hopefully no hub i.e smart things), please

honestly i am happy with the lifx app, especially the randomn/music effects give kids time to enjoy

                • @Damnsmart: I use the xiaomi aqara sensors, they work great and were cheap as. I use Node-Red to control them. Turns on for kids when they open door or get to doorway, and waits 15mins of no motion before turning off. Great for kids and adults at night.

Hue is better for if you dont have a middle controller as it has its own motion sensor

                  • @asa79: Node red - is it easy to use?

                    • @Damnsmart: It's a graphical automation so easier in someways

                      • @asa79: PM'd for details, is there a video tutorial for this?

this argument is getting too old…

      EDIT: its also completely irrelevant.

I used LIFX but now I just use them like regular globes because they loose connection very often.
The TP Link bulbs are better than LIFX in maintaining a connection.

However recently I started replacing them with Hue and they are rock solid. Also have the added advantage of using the dimmer switch. Wish Hue introduces some higher lumen bulbs.

      • Hue also work when no internet compared to tplink

      • Which ones are you using to find them not bright enough?

        • A60 Hue White and Colour Ambiance

          • @Ronney: how much brighter do you need them?

            • @asa79: The LIFX brightness is perfect. I think they are around 1100 Lumens.

      • i "used" have connection problem with lifx before (i.e.looses connection with google home & mobile app when accidentally switched off). They got much better now….even though you switch off & on, not loosing connection and works good. not sure if i am just being lucky!!!

        • been new firmware updates recently for reliable in all smart bulb camps

  • Noob question: Can I use this screenshot to price match my local Bunnings?

    • Some stores will do such a price match. There is no official policy allowing it, but apparently some store managers have decided it is a good thing™.

      Can't hurt to try.

(It also might have something to do with the reason the product is marked down.)

    • Depending on the store some will price match some won’t
Iv never had a problem price matching at any bunnings sofar

    • Oops. Should have looked closer at the picture.

In this case those prices are nation-wide, so no need for price matching.

      (Deal fixed.)

Unfortunately, it's just luck with who you get (which is something I find quite disappointing).

At least with me, if someone comes to me and shows me a cheaper price, and they aren't intentionally trying to deceive me, then yeah I'll do it no questions asked. If it's literally a picture of a price tag at another Bunnings, then I don't see any reason not to.

If it's an online store, all I ask is to be allowed to click refresh on the webpage or view it from my own phone (this is because I've had people inspect-element and edit the price. I've also had someone insist some fancy brita filter was being sold for less than half our price, by showing me his final checkout page. He had applied a gift card to the order which obviously brought down the price and kept accusing me of calling him a liar by asking to see the actual product page, which was at least 20% higher than the Bunnings price lol).

  • Must be matching against yesterday's amazon prices

  • Price matched at Officeworks Fitzroy - $36.48

  • Nice spot mate. Grabbed myself a Go.

  • got a Hue Go too - scanned at $147 or something and they had to manually adjust it.

Been looking at them for a year and a half but could never justify the cost. At this price it's good.
