    $63.51 + Delivery ($0 with Prime/ $49 Spend)

Isn't that free delivery then as the price is above $49?

  • Showing $97.95 would have bought it otherwise

    • You need to log in with your Amazon Prime account to see the discount. I just bought it then.

    • Still $63.51 for me. Think you have to be a prime member to get the free shipping. Updated title.

  • Super deal for a great game. Nice find OP

  • Fantastic price

Would this game be ok for someone who is new to boardgames?

    • +4

Depends on your logic skills. I would say try something else first, unless you have an experienced bunch of friends to play with. Can be immensely difficult to enter a new game with all inexperienced players.

      • I bought the binding of Isacc one, I'm yet to play it but I think I might whip it out on the weekend.

    • +2

This game is a bit heavy and might take a while to learn for someone who is new to board games. But if you do want to give it a go I suggest watching a tutorial on youtube as it's a lot easier to learn the game if you see it being played.

  • Thanks OP, grabbed a copy!

Does anyone have any recommendations on the expansions or add-ons that make this game even better? Maybe some of them are cheaper on Amazon currently.

    • +3

Did some research, there are three expansions to the game:

      • Expansion 1 - Invaders from Afar:
Adds two additional factions to the base game, there starting points are already depicted on the map so it was expected that this would release, bumps the game up to 7 players, nothing more.

Only get this if you have more than five players or the core factions are getting bland and you want to change them up. Not essential.

      • Expansion 2 - The Wind Gambit:
Adds one airship for each faction to the game with the cards to randomly select the traits for each airship per game (giving them variety each play through).

Better than the first expansion as it adds a new mechanic to the game, although its not a game changer and people even prefer playing Expansion 3 without the airships to make things less complicated as the rules can bog you down. Not essential, but nice to have.

      • Expansion 3 - Rise of Fenris:
This has been described as the best expansion out of the three, and can be played with any or no other expansions. This adds a campaign to the game in kind of the way Risk Legacy rewarded players for winning games by opening boxes at the end of each game giving them permanent buffs for the next game. This campaign is designed for 8 consecutive games with additional mechanics and rules being added as you progress. The story telling has been said to be of very high quality.

Reviewers have stated that this is a must have if you enjoy Scythe, it even has a co-op campaign if you want to play with a friend against the board. Essential if you have friends to play with you regularly.

There are also some notable add-ons for the game that may be worth your time.

      • Scythe Board Extension
The vanilla board is already fairly decent in size but if your looking at playing with the airship expansion or with more than five players the hex tiles can get crowded. To combat this you can pick up the board extension which expands the vanilla board by flipping it over to a large map and adding this extension to its side which completes the vanilla board.

Get this if your hosting more than five player games or have the airships. Not essential, nice to have.

      • Scythe Encounters
To add more flavor to the game, the only random mechanic of the game are the encounter cards so as to add more variety the developers opened up a contest to the Scythe community to come up with more ideas for these types of cards, 32 ideas where selected and turned into an additional encounter deck that you can use on its own or with the core games encounter deck adding more flavor to the game.

Like a story pack DLC for Stellaris, this only adds additional flavor to the game. Not essential, nice to have more flavor.

There are also some quality of life or "immersion" items available, people have given these items lots of good reviews but they are expensive for what you are getting:

      • Metal Coins Add-On
Replaces the games cardboard coins with real metal coins that are unique to each faction, although it appears it only does this for the core five factions and not the first expansions addition two factions so not sure how that works.

More than $30 for metal coins, really? Not essential.

      • Realistic Resources Tokens Add-On
Replaces the games cardboard resource tokens with 3D models of wood logs, sacks of grain, barrels of oil and bars of steel.

Again, really expensive for what you are actually getting. Not essential.

      • Scythe Legendary Box
Literally a big box to store the core game, expansions and add-ons.

Around $50 for a box, lol.

      • Thanks for taking the time to research them all for us. Rise of Fenris sounds awesome.

        • No worries!

I should also mention the reviewers said that as you progress through the campaign and open more of the content (mini boxes which are sealed and only meant to be opened once you have played certain parts of the campaign) that the new rules and new mechanics this expansion adds can then be used to add variety to normal games of Scythe.

Just think of it as a box of new rules and mechanics and an amazing story driven campaign with progression rewards.

      • Awesome summary, thanks!!!

  • So, so good. A must in any game library.

  • Amazing price for an excellent game!

  • can't resist any more. it is 8th in all-time ranking on boardgamegeek.

  • 1-5 players? Is that a typo?

    • You can play solo

      • Interesting

  • They just changed the price

  • Scythe is a great game and this price is excellent.

This is one of those board games that I feel is truly worth the price you pay. The box is huge and comes with quality components. There's a lot of depth to the game, it may seem daunting at first, but the rules are quite easy to teach once you understand the game.

  • price back to 97.95?

    • I think so. Though I cant even see amazon global store as an option for the game in the list of sellers.

  • $97.95 here
