Cheap Specialist Orthodontist Sydney Recommendations

Hi

I had braces when I was 16 for about 4 years and absolutely hated them, but since then I've developed a semi-severe open bite that is making it difficult to eat certain foods and starting to shape my face

I've been to a few places for quotes, first to the mail order braces and the non specialist orthodontist Martin place who recommended me to a see a specialist orthodontist, I had an appointment with Lifestyle orthodontist in Bondi who stated my teeth could be fixed without surgery but at the small cost of
12k for Invisalign
And 14k for lingual braces

This is incredibly expensive in my opinion and more than I can afford.

Why not traditional braces? I get really really bad mouth ulcers and the last time I had braces I was in constant agony, I am also an adult and would prefer to not have train tracks, again.

I'm just looking for recommendations on I presume specialist Orthodontist either in Sydney Eastern Suburbs or surround area that don't charge an absolute fortune I was hoping for around 5k….

Appreciate any help

  • I've developed a semi-severe open bite that is making it difficult to eat certain foods and starting to shape my face

Good luck trying to fix your situation for a third of what you've been quoted, especially in the Eastern Suburbs …

I'd assume that because you're getting braces again as an adult, that it would cost more as compared to when you got them as a teenager too.

  • Check out Dovan Dental in Lakemba

  • Depending on your circumstances overseas may be worth considering. Have a look at:

    • I got a quote in Bali but they said due to how servers my teeth are I would need to have an appointment every month /2 month

Average braces price with the orthodontist nowadays are around 7-12k depending on the case.
The older you are the harder your bones going to be, so I don't think Invisalign would be a good option too as it is made of plastic.
Also, Unfortunately, You still can get ulcers from lingual braces too

I don't know if this would help but I went to MyOrtho in Randwick as they are quite reasonable with price.
    Good luck

    • I'm assuming the ulcers are mainly on the tongue as aside to the gums, which is somewhat better

How much did MyOrtho cost? If you don't mind me asking

      • I paid 9K and my case was quite severe. I got a bad crossbite and I have gaps from missing molars on my right and left handside. I went with the traditional braces.
It can be more expensive if you're thinking to get the lingual braces.

Definitely go with a specialist orthodontist. I know it's a significant expense but the fact that you need repeat orthodontic treatment means that there may be underlying reasons for this, ie. mouth breathing, tongue thrusting, etc. You want a professional that is skilled in this area to ensure the treatment is appropriate in your case and sticks!

Most orthodontists also offer flexible repayment plans, if that would assist.

  • Might want to max out your health insurance* to highest insurance before getting your braces.

Not sure if that will save you more money.

Nah not going to work unless OP have already been paying for a couple of years to add a paltry $400-600 a year with a $2.4-2.8k lifetime cap.

      • Have never had private health care in AU but when I looked into it it seemed to provide minimal towards these types of treatments

  • Go get a second or third opinion elsewhere. Don't know how old are you but may already missed the boat in non-surgery method because your jaws would've been pretty solid if you're beyond your teenage years.

    • The first 2 non specialists I saw stated surgery looks likely
