Is It Worth Getting Your iPhone Camera Fixed by a 3rd Party?

My Iphone 7 was recently dropped and now the back camera doesn't work.

I'm considering whether to get it fixed or just buy a new phone.

Anyone with experience getting it fixed by a 3rd party dealer, I'm guessing they're using non-geniune parts. Has anyone with any experience with them?

Given how tightly integrated hardware and software is these days with phones, especially phones. does anyone have any experience with getting their camera fixed and whether it's the same quality image as if they got it done by Apple?

  • Is paying around $150 to have a phone worth around $400 repaired ?

    • dunno, but something to weigh up…

but otherwise the phone is in good condition. So if I want to keep using iphone 7, I'd rather just fix it then buy a new iphone.

      • $150 or $1500, your choice.

        • Or go with an el cheapo android phone…

lots of options to weigh up really.

  • +5

it's easy to do it yourself (If it is just the camera)

spare part from aliexpress for ~AU$30 delivered - there might be cheaper - that was a 1 minute quick search.

complete instructions from ifixit to replace camera

I've swapped out/replaced many iphones parts for iphone 3,4,5,6 with parts from aliexpress. never had an issue.

have a read of the guide it's extremely detailed. but straightforward.

and you will need the pentalobe screwdriver and a small phillipshead as well - just buy this kit for $1 delivered - i have these and they are more than fine for iphone repairs

    • Thanks will look into this. Probably still buy a new phone as the part will take ages to arrive.

However might be worth learning how to fix it so I can sell it later
