  • Wish it has 2 more features - 1) DVD drive, 2) VGA Output

  • @mawinmawin It does say "Supports TV video output: composite, s-video, component (YPbPr) and VGA"

update: looks like the original post has been corrected since my comment.

  • Cant see from the site or pictures that this supports VGA - does have HDMI.

@mawinmawin I found a dvd player that support xvid (no hdd available) on daily deals (not promoting it as I've never owner one) that does have VGA output a while back.

    http://www.dailydeals.com.au/region-free-dvddivxusb-player-p…

Thought this was good if you had a spare PC monitor.

    • Thanks. I bought that from cotd already, but bad quality. It cant play original DVDs (I think it is not supporting double layer DVDs).

  • Does is support x264 mkv?

    • I was interested it if could decode 720p sized divx. I would expect for the price the answer would be no…

      • it says support 720p/1080i output

  • No Wifi connection?

    • I would be happy if it supports Wired :)

    • this model dont have wifi, but there is other model that has Lan/wifi

  • Doubt whether it supports the newer x264 ..
Good discussion on whirlpool about this device.

    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/929…

  • If only it had an ethernet port, I would have grabbed a couple.

    • we also have Lan port model. MDT-PM368PLS

  • Looks like it can't handle HD content. I'll stick to my XBOX with XBMC for SD stuff and my cheap PC with XP MCE for HD stuff.

    • what kind of HD content do you mean by that?

      • Anything in 720p and up.

    • Yep still waiting for the holy grail of XBMC Xbox replacement .

  • How the heck is the lan model so much more expensive …
    MDT-PM368PLS - $230.60
Thats a bloody expensive network socket!

    • The LAN model also can decode 720p so assume its beefier.

  • The HDMI does not do 1080P =(

Which is kind of what HDMI is for…

But on the plus side you can get digital audio out of it.

EDIT: After checking out whirlpool forum posts - it seems that the unit can't see all of the files on the drive. Another problem is that 1080i doesn't work.

Apparently it needs firmware upgrade but people are having trouble upgrading it…

Well I WAS going to get one, but I think I'll stick to MediaGate.

Negative for me because of poor product. Pay $20 for it and you still wouldn't be happy if it doesn't work.

  • ha, no offense, except for the HDMI & USB, I found that my trusty 7 years old xbox still can do all that, plus I got ethernet connection too..:)

but plus vote because it's a good deal regardless :)

    • True. There was a deal here before for xbox at abt 99$ at eb-games or somewhere, which exceeds this easily
