After spending almost twice as much on an Engel, then have it develop a fault 5000+ km from home after 1 months use, and now I'm stuck battling Engel trying to get them to honour the warranty, and struggling to find an Engel service agent that will actually look at it (they don't seem to want to deal with Engel warranty work), I really wish I had gone for a cheap ebay fridge like the Evakool…

  • I tried Evakool and they failed miserably…good in the old days but all they are now is rebadged Chinese junk. The two (yes 2) I tried wouldn't go down to -16 or hold a steady temperature (and these were their dearer models)…I think they stick too small a compressor in too big a cabinet and, therefore, they don't work as advertised…YMMV but after documenting it to Evakool they refunded me in full and collected the rubbish…that was a few years ago so maybe they have got their sh!t together now?

I think this is rebadged - but they still make their own line of Fridges too.
The fibreglass range is what gave them a good reputation: https://www.evakool.com/47-litre-evakool-fibreglass-fridge-f…

      • They seem to have improved after the last few years.
I'd be interested in hearing what it is a rebadged version of because that is not what support have told me.

      • I've had there RF60 fridge for over 12 years now and hasn't missed a beat until I had it converted from dial to digital. Not as efficient but still ok….
Only really use it as a fridge when I go away for weeks in The High Country…

so what have you ended up using?

I bought a cheapie from BigW of all places and it has at least worked, taking the temp down to -16 and holding it there…it is the same size compressor but in a smaller cabinet so the compressor can handle the volume….I think the problem arises when they stick small BD35's into larger cabinets (as this one is)

  • Yep true that! I can vouch these are Chinese junk and do not bother! I owned one and it was faulty from the start and the two others I've seen were stuffed too (Glacier series). Their older style Australian made Evakool stuff is awesome quality. I can seriously recommend Bushman fridges. They do not stuff up often if at all. The parts are seriously cheap and best of all they talk you through doing the repairs yourself ( its 12v ). I bought an old one cheap then put full new computer ( about 80 bucks at time) new seals, new baskets and thermostat and stickers and lid totalling a few hundred. Its been running now for five years faultlessly and was 15 years old when i got it. There service is second to NONE! Bushman are the best EDIT .. I also have the campmaster fridge from a deal on here and its been really good but is nothing on my Bushman
