Which Budget Gaming Monitor? ($300)

I'm currently using a Dell 24" (think it's a P2417 from memory).

I'm quite happy with the resolution but bigger is better right?

I'm only a casual gamer (old and married now!). Playing the like of AC Odyssey, GTA V, Farming Sim 19 etc.
It's only used for web surfing and gaming, never videos etc.

Looking for something bigger for gaming but I'm unsure on resolution vs size vs performance etc for my spec pc.

PC Specs:

RX580 8GB
16GB RAM
I5 6500 CPU

The current 15% off ebay sale gives me these two options, but I'm open to any suggestions…..

AOC Q3279VWFD8 (around $250) but I'm starting to doubt the RX580 can power it well enough?
32", 2560 x 1440, 75hz freesync 5ms

Maybe the overall pixel count of an ultrawide would run better?

29" LG 29WK600-W IPS HDR10 Ultrawide LED - (around $300)
2560 x 1080 75hz freesync 5ms

I'm not going to be in a hurry to upgrade my GPU too soon and it seems I'm in a real dead spot between resolution vs FPS.

Any advice gratefully received!!!

  • Online says if you're willing to put up with 50-ish FPS at med-high settings, your RX580 can drive AAA games (like AC:O) at 1440p.

The 2560x1080 resolution would give imo a better balance between res and settings/fps, and with a 1060 6GB (below your RX580) I can game on that resolution no issues.

      Thanks dude,

I've spent the last two days searching for RX580 experiences with 1440p but it seems so hit and miss.

I am leaning towards the ultrawide - I'm starting to think it might be a better balance.

  • I'm also monitor-hunting and I've got an RX 570. Keen to hear what you end up picking.

I'll actually be doing a fair bit of video editing. So I'm not sure if one's better or worse for that.
