The first question I have for you; do you really need a gaming laptop? All my friends and work colleagues (IT professionals) who have gone down the path of gaming laptops have always regretted it about 6 months down the track wishing they instead got a cheaper productivity laptop and a desktop with a good graphics card.

    • I had a laptop similar in specs before this and it died shortly after purchase. I'm just looking for something on par with it that isn't the same model. They're not for everyone admittedly but they do work well for the games/multitasking I use it for.

I've generally seen people recommend a HP X360 as a productivity device. But when they go home, they have a separate Desktop PC.
It seems the days of Mac's niche superiority is mostly over, and lesser reasons to go outside of Windows.

It's generally not worth going the route of eGPU's, at least with the current prices/options. It's also not quite worth it for multi-booting with several Operating Systems (favourites being Windows10 Pro, macOS, Pop OS, and PheonixOS). Some people rather use a Mac for the more polished hardware-software experience, and use a VM/Emulation like (Parallels, MacPorts, Nox).

So yeah, just focus on Windows10 Pro, and try to get two dedicated devices, rather than a "Jack of all trades/master of none".

        • It is really sound advice OP, but if you really want a "gaming" laptop it is your choice.

Have a look at EGPU's, decent option if you want to game at home and while you stream but still take your laptop wherever you need.

The asus ROG, looks to be your best bet.

I don't think MetaBox includes Windows so you'll have to source it yourself. I think the Asus looks the best out of those options.

  • Thanks I thought so, it's a bit of a stretch wallet wise but the metal frame and slightly better specs seem worth it if I want something that will last a while. Appreciate the help!

  • Depends on your use-case. I'd build a gaming desktop, and get a small lightweight laptop for couch/bed.
