[Advice Needed] New Driveway Because Power Pole Is Currently in The Way

Hi

My neighbor and myself have a shared double driveway and recently the energy company decided to put a utility pole in near middle of the driveway which is blocking access/ a very tight access to my garage.

I am wondering how much would it cost to have the council put in a new crossover next to the power pole so i can get into the property?

Cheers

    MS paint please.

But why can the energy company putting a pole which did not consult you?

      Probably easement.

I'd agree… except normally easements make a distinction between having wires passing through land, and having physical structures erected on it.

While we wait on OP to get back to us, I'm leaning towards the pole actually being on the strip of public land (footpath, etc) in front of OP's land.

    • But why can the energy company putting a pole which did not consult you?

Utility companies may construct assets on crown land with proper approval.

  • Depending where you are and how much power goes thru the lines (and how critical the customers are).

Western Power has some pricing https://westernpower.com.au/faqs/relocate-equipment/relocate…

    $5k to $15k

  • I don't really understand what's happening. No power company would install a power pole in the middle of an existing driveway?!

  • Morland council, as an example. However, I think you are meant to pay for its construction.

However, I would go to the power company and ask them why they put a power pole in your driveway and how they will help you rectify the situation. Either your driveways are very large, not listed properly in council records or the power company got an allowance to put it where it is. In any situation you should’ve been notified beforehand.

  • Call the council or a concreter/landscaper. How is anyone suppose to answer this?

    Will not be cheap.
