ADSL upgraded to NBN by service provider, but No NBN network = No Broadband

Recently I applied for converting my ADSL+ connection to NBN through my existing service provider. They messaged me that the switching has been completed. But NBN network is not present in my tapping point. As the upgrade has been done, my ADSL service has been disconnected. So I don't have an internet connection for the last week. I contacted the service provider, they created a case with NBN, two times technicians visited both said there is a network issue and will be resolved in 48 hours. It is already 3 days no solution in sight.

So what are all the options now? Could someone suggest a wireless dongle which doesn't cost me an arm and length? Currently, I am paying $70/Month for unlimited data.

I have complained to TIO as well, they communicated that my service provider has been advised to resolve the issue by 08.08.2019. But I doubt it will get resolved by that date. Because it is completely in the hands of NBNCO.

Any advice is highly appreciated.

    Who is your ISP?

Ask them if they'll credit your account if you buy a prepaid dongle and use that until your service is connected. Or ask them if they'll supply you with one

        • Thanks. We are now dependant on Mobile data. Let me wait for another day or two then I will contact them. Though they have agreed to bear any additional mobile data expense if I give the receipt.

  • Which nbn have they said you'll get? Did you put your address in the nbnco website to confirm the date?

I find it strange there is no mention of you connecting the nbn box up and telling us which lights are not green. This is how people normally know they are not connected.

    • I didn't check on NBN website. But all ISPs are now offering NBN in our complex. My neighbour is also facing same issue.

Sorry missed mentioning now the NBN box has Power On and Downstream link ON, Upstream blinking and Online OFF

Did you check first that the NBN was at your location?

You'd think the fact that the ISP was offering to convert would mean it was available

      • To be honest, if it was not available NBN guy wouldn't have installed the cable and HFC box. Also it worked for an hour or so in between. Very strange.

This is a common problem, specifically you moved to NBN. #totalwhiteelephant

I'm going through the same issue mate.

FTTP service at a new development… I lodged the application with Exetel on the day the property settled. Checked the connection on the day I moved in… nothing. To cut a long story short, NBN Co have fudged up somewhere. Initially it was connecting the wrong property. Now I have no idea what they've done. I've provided the NTD's serial number, evidence that I live at the address, etc, but they're useless.

Had to sign up to a month to month wireless broadband plan in the interim as I was digging into my mobile phone's data too much. Luckily my dad and bro are with Spintel so I was able to use one of their referral codes to get $25 off.

If I were you, I'd consider signing up to wireless broadband month to month as well to get by… I've read a lot about initial NBN set up on Whirlpool and it's not uncommon that some of us spend 3 months getting NBN connected. Spintel got the modem to me quickly… signed up on Thurs arvo and the modem was delivered on Monday (though, Startrack did take it the post office as no one was home… I should have told Spintel to instruct Startrack to leave it at the front door behind something). Happy to supply a referral code/link if you consider this path. PM if you need it.

    • Thank you very much for the offer. We are not much into streaming or heavy internet usage. We were pretty happy with ADSL+ service. Now a neighbour has offered their internet to us. So managing for time-being.

Please share your referral code. I will use if I am signing up for Singtel.

      • Hey mate, I'm not allowed to post referral links on the forum openly. Will need to PM you but it looks like you've got that feature turned off. I also need an email address or mobile number of yours to generate the link.

  • Just one of many NBN issues that happen every day!
Bottom line is that you raced into it far too quickly!

Given you have 18monyths to change you should have waited and got feedback form neigbours that ttieed to connect to NBN.

    Lesson learnt here:
Do NOT rush into NBN changeover
You have 18 months to sound out your options and make the change
Let your neigbours change over first and wait for the "all clear"

    • I thought I’d wait 18 months and change at the last opportunity because of all the bad experiences I’d been hearing about, but considering I don’t need my land line anymore and don’t want to pay for it for another 18 months, I decided to bite the bullet and got the slowest plan - nbn50 100GB (43Mbps evening) with free modern which was/is $10 cheaper per month than my 8Mbps download (if I’m lucky) ADSL plan.

When the NBN technician was at my place, he told me that I was the first person in my street with NBN connected.

The service has been spot on- I managed to get my own pre-paid voip set up with mynetfone (not through the ISP) and I’ve been doing speed tests almost daily and they are all around 46-50 Mbps down and 17 up at the mo, although I do expect that to not always be the case when the neighbours get connected.

Strangely enough, when I go on my ISP’s website, it says that NBN is not available at my address??

You are one of the lucky souls for sure. Enjoy the high speed (compared to ADSL) internet.

In my street, other blocks have NBN service. In our block there are unoccupied units. So couldn't check with others. Anyway after I started facing this issue, I warned my neighbours about this and they communicated the same thing to their ISPs when they receive communications to switch to NBN.

    • It's a sad state of affairs for people to want to delay signing up to the NBN, and I don't blame them one bit. Like a cat clawing on to the carpet once it knows it's being taken to the vet.

  • Finally it started working, though there is official confirmation from Belong that, my complaint has been resolved. So not sure it is permanent resolution or not. Anyway using the internet till it is available.
