Chromecast Command Doesn't Turn off TV [Ultra] [Hisense 55r7]

Hey guys
Just updating on this situation.
I was experiencing this with the tcl e19us but returned it because it sucks.
The hisense 55R7 seems phenomenal but the same thing is happening.

Google commands will turn the TV on through the Chromecast, but not turn it off (gen 1 and ultra).
Whereas on my 4 year old sony bravia kdl it does (gen 1 and ultra).

I tried all Google's troubleshooting and various threads I've found and then tweeted out to google for support.

Long story short they say they are investigating it.

Weird that my Sony TV still turns off but this won't.

It also says my TV has google assistant ready, but support team knew nothing of that and are investigating, seems like it's an error in the spec sheet.

  • Careful of your screenshots on the www. That screenshot of your Hisense account shows your email address, and it's there on Twitter for all to see

    • Thanks mate

  • To turn your TV on, doesn't that mean your chromecast is always on and consuming data?

      I mean… I guess.
Chromecast ultra connect straight to ac wall plug so what can ya do.
I prefer it anyway, to turn my TV on

      • I have mine powered by a USB port on the TV, but then I can only turn the TV on with the remote…can still turn it off with command though…

        • Fair enough.
We pretty much only watch off plex so can cast straight to the TV and have it turn on, start plex and go to the correct input all in one

Check the settings of the TV and ensure that HDMI CEC is enabled, and there might be setting there too called Auto Standby or Power or something like that, make sure that is enabled too.

Was not able to control a Aldi/Bahun TV until that setting was enabled. Now I can turn the TV off and on using the Chromecast via Google Assistant. Happy days.

    • Yeah, on my Panasonic there's are auto on and auto off options I can toggle.

      Toggled them all too

      Any other advice?

      • TV firmware up to date?

        • Yeah triple checked :/

          • @teacherer: did you ever get this working? just got this TV and am having same issue. Turns on automatically but wont turn off automatically.

  • I have been trying to get it to work as well and have no luck. I can turn on the TV with Google Assistant but can't turn it off.

      • It worked recently when my friend asked google to turn off the TV which I didn't think would work. I just tried it now and it looks like it would turn off but not turn on. Google assistant is giving me the "the living room tv does not support this feature" when I ask it to turn on the TV….

Mind you this is with the TV fully up to date and connected to google home. Saying "turn off the living room Chromecast" doesn't do anything still. So now I have this weird setup of turning on the tv with Chromecast and turning it off with the tv handling the request itself..
