I will be returning to Melbourne for 2 months vacation. Thus what would be the most economical way to rent a car for less than 2 months without breaking the wallet? The cars interested would be compact cars like Honda Jazz or equivalent. Welcome any good reasonable suggestions.

Maybe have a look at "car next door"
I think you need to look at the very least a few streets away, you'll get caught pretty quickly if you steal your next door neighbours car.
Do you really need a car for the 2 months? Can you get away with Uber/taxi/bus/mates? Work out how to combine the times you need a car into a week or two and rent for that. Public transport the rest.
Perhaps spend a bit extra on accommodation closer to where you want to be instead of sitting in traffic trying to get there. Buy a bicycle?
THE most economical way to use a car is not to use one.
Buy a car just before your trip starts (get a friend or something to do so) and sell it, or get a friend to sell it when you leave. The money you'll lose in depreciation will be far less than any car rental for two months.
I am returning to stay in my House in Melbourne, Thus can’t move. Uber/taxi/bus sounds like a good idea.
‘justaperson’ suggestion sounds good. I have to weigh the insurance costs and regio vs car rental. Selling car won’t be easy. :)I have thought of Greenshare car, Drive my car, Car next door but they are close by in Doncaster.

The 907 bus goes from Doncaster road to the city on the freeway. Takes 25-35 minutes. Where else are you going that you'll need a car for 2 months? I doubt it will be worth it. Just rent one as you need it. Presumably, you'll have travel insurance so just add the car hire option.
Sign up to car next door, greenshare, goget etc. Most require you to be sent a smart card and some license verification so you might want to get that done ASAP.
