How Much Do You Pay for Household LPG Gas Refills?

I just got quoted $1.31/l (GST incluside) for LPG gas refills from Origin. That's up from $1.23 (GST inclusive) which i have been paying for the last 12 months. This is where they come to my house and fill up the existing tanks and I just get charged for the amount that it takes to fill the tanks back to full.

The price seems to vary depending on who you buy it from. Curious to see what other pay?

  • Seems cheap, I pay 120 for a bottle. - which is what 45kg….dunno what that is per L

    • 45kg holds 88L which would be $1.36/l.

      • Yeah mine just went up from $105 which was $1.19 so seems they've all done it - I rang them coz it went to $135 and they offered me $120

  • We use Elgas
They seem to have a 'new customer' welcome of $80 (to be used over several invoices), but from my perspective the service is always spot on.

It would be worth a check of their pricing for comparison.

    • problem i have with comparing is that the changeover needs to be certified by a gas fitter or something which is a coupla hundred apparently.

      • Fair enough, but that makes me wonder why you raised this forum, as you are also apparently assuming what the changeover costs would be.
If you don't ask you won't know.

By the way, the 9 newspapers are today reporting gas shortages along the East Coast, with costs rising as a result.

        • With Origin, if you find a better price, they will beat it by 5% for 12 months. that is the reason I am asking.

      • In NSW only the new installation has to be certified. There is no subsequent changeover inspection. If you are with anyone other than Elgas they swap bottles every time anyway.

The suppliers all have deals with each other to collect and return the Gas bottles when you swap. Just let your old supplier know that you are leaving and that the new supplier will return their bottles.

  • Elgas was charging the previous occupant of my house by the litre which worked out greater than $140 per bottle a few years ago. I went with Supagas who were charging $119 per bottle last year. This year they wanted to increase it to $134 per bottle.

I tried Origin Energy and they had a really good price of $120. When I asked how much the subsequent bottles would be they said $160 !!!

I eventually went with "The Gas Shed" in Sydney who are $115. Next day delivery. Can't fault them so far (the bottles have all been full which can't be said for some suppliers.)
