Budget Printer

Ok folks,

I've had it to death with my inkjet and time to move up in the world and go to laser printers. In OzB fashion, after something cheap and reliable. I just want it to print not too much to ask, but apprently in over 40 years inkjets still suck and there is no hope. Here is my scope:

  1. Cheap
  2. Reliable
  3. Should be able to go long periods without the ink/toner clogging.
  4. Don't care for colour B/W is fine
  5. Don't care for wireless
  6. Don't care for speed

Yep it simply needs to print that is all. Too much to ask?!?

Moat likely a throw away laser like the Brother HL-1110 around $80. Best to bin and buy again once toner out as its cheaper…

Is it? The toner that comes with it isn't a full cartridge I thought? The cartridge gives you an extra 300 prints over the one that came with the printer, not to mention the e-waste for those environmental types.

      • Back when the printers were $30 it was (a new printer comes with a new drum too) but not so much any more, you can get two toners for well under $50.

I use mine infrequently and it never has any issues.

  • Yep, the HL-1110 - 5 years and still going strong, one toner cartridge change…..no driver issues.

Although mine is wireless…..so its probably not that exact model, but looks the same.

  • Anyone got a suggestion for one that is also a multifunction?

    • Based on this thread, Brother MFC?

Cool thanks I'll give the brother a shot. More pissed off I spent $80 on ink and then procceded to waste half of it calibrating :(

Get a Brother HL1110 and then either a generic toner cartridge or a DIY bottle of toner from eBay.

    Works for me.

  • I've got the next Brother up - an L2350DW, for $120 - and the inbuilt wifi & Google Print means I can dump it on a bookshelf anywhere in the house and it'll just work. That (very slight) price premium is definitely worth the desk space luxury!

We've had one plugging along at work for about 3 years and it's been flawless. No fighting it to connect to the network, no blurring or lines, no excessive ink use (yay for lasers!!)

  • I got officeworks to price match amazon (i needed it urgent) and got the following for $99

my mate was with me and grabbed one too, was a little while ago and they may have accidentally price matched amazon US
