Travel Insurance for long term travel

Hi All,

I'm going to be going travelling to UK and Europe for about 1.5 years. Hopefully working in London for the majority of it, but i was wondering what are my travel insurance options? Is there some kind of Medicare for people on working visas in London? or do people just by a years worth of travel insurance and renew as needed?

Any help would be good. I'm a travelling noob!

  • they should have similar insurance in here for overseas visitor, normal travel insurance only cover up to 1 year only.

  • do you mean like private health insurance?

  • Medicare have a reciprocal agreement with the UK. This MUST be arranged before you leave 'cos if you rock up without the appropriate paperwork it will cost. Also it is only available for "needs must" health service-ie they won't cover for- say screening services which are not life threatening. eg Want to see what your cholesterol is but have no symptoms. Should still havew some travel insurance as things like ambo and repatriation are not covered.

    • "Further details are available from the United Kingdom Department of Health and Medicare Australia. "

      gah .. the plot thickens.

  • in addition to this topic can anyone recommend a good travel insurance product that is 12 months + at reasonable price?
    Anyone know of https://globelink.co.uk?

  • Try http://www.worldnomads.com.au/ You can extend while travelling.

    • Nomads charges a massive premium compared to other insurers…

      • What kind of premium? I've found them cheaper because you don't have to take extras you don't need.
