Where to Buy Taxi-Box Sized Crate?

Hi All,
Moving overseas to London. After tossing up whether or not to pay for storage for my belongings or just sell them, I was thinking of putting 1-2 "taxi-box sized" crates on my car space, and renting the apartment without the car space (there is ample street parking).

Does anyone have any idea where I could purchase/rent these? I don't want shipping crates as they're incredibly heavy and hard to transport.

  • Likely a custom build. Reach out to a few places like this with dimensions for a quote. Consult a local carpenter too maybe. https://www.ljbtimberpackaging.com.au/?gclid=CjwKCAjw7anqBRA…

    • Thanks, just reached out.

  • Is it worth trying to rent your apartment furnished to someone doing a move the other way? Maybe join the "Aussies in London" facebook group and see if anyone knows anyone/knows someone who knows somone…

Would your carpark be secure or could someone break-in to a box? What if you decide to stay in London?

    • Thanks, got the quote $200 a month to store it on your own premises! Crazy.

  • Did you have no luck with Taxi-box themselves? They'd be my vote.
    taxibox

    • I did, but you have to store it at there site, which is quite costly.

      • Are you sure? Fairly certain they do 'on-site' storage as well - site-storage

  • +1

Check with your body corp / strata that you're allowed to do this. Most have bylaws that say you're only allowed to park cars, and nto store goods, in your car space.

And generally the consequence if they serve you notices for breach of these bylaws and you don't reply in the given timeframe (say, because you're not in the country) they take everything, dump it, and charge you for the cost of doing it.

    • thanks good point did not think of this.

  • If you leave your furnishings in the property, check into landlord insurance.

I rented out a place a few years ago, fully furnished, tenants took all of the old junk and insurance covered it (free upgrades!)
