Wireless Broadband Options (Prepaid if Possible)

TLDR: no longer need unlimited data on wireless broadband, Optus rejected downgrading my current plan and in the process dinged my credit report. Any suggestions for (possibly prepaid) wireless broadband?

Background/rant:
I've been a customer of Vivid wireless (now Optus) for over 2 years, paying $89 for unlimited data after our ADSL in the apartment suddenly failed.

I am looking to downsize because 2 of my flatmates are moving out and we won't be needing unlimited data anymore. So I got onto Optus live chat, thinking it was the easiest.

The rep agreed to give me the month-to-month $65 plan for 200GB of data and proceeded to make the order. I was then told that my application had been rejected due to credit check. This has me fuming because I can obviously afford $65 a month if I can currently afford $89. In any case, I am keen to cancel my account with Optus and find another wireless broadband

Will be grateful for any suggestions

Telstra 15 dollars per month 5 gigs data but after that UNLIMITED internet capped to 1.5mbps, alright for Netflix and YouTube at least for myself.

    • I'm thinking about downsizing from 200GB $60 Optus package to that 5GB unlimited Telstra package to save some buck.
Can you tell me more about the actual experience ? is there anything you miss about high speed internet?

Itโ€™s no bad if your going to use 1 streaming screen per time, use I use it for Netflix and YouTube both works on HD sometime you see a buffer but itโ€™s not a problem to wait couple of seconds.

        • Thanks mate! is it 720p HD ? What about general web browsing ? do you feel any slowness?

@bazingaa: 720 yes, and browsing is good no problems there.

  • A credit check is standard practice for new connections for any telco. They have responsibilities to make sure you can pay. The fact you already pay on another provider is not relevant.

I would be more concerned that you failed a credit check and getting a copy of my credit file asap

I was already with Optus because all Vividwireless customers were transferred over.

And I did request a copy already, waiting for it to be sent.

      • How do you request a copy? I was a vivid —> Optus customer as well and failed with credit check too when trying to switch to another plan.

You got the wrong rep. You need to threaten for account termination, these reps have more power.

When they ask you why, mention what you want.
Downgrading is still better than losing a customer.

    • Got the customer retention team today and they offered 30% off my current plan! Down to $62.30 with unlimited data. I'm happy about that ๐Ÿ˜

      • Great to hear! ๐Ÿ‘Œ
