I Bought a Go Pro on eBay from a 0 Feedback Seller

So I made this purchase on eBay for a Go Pro Camera, the seller has offered Local Pickup, I knew I shouldn't have taken the risk due to the seller not having any feedback but the listing seemed legitimate,
Anyways I after I committed to buy, I sent the seller a message offering to pay with cash on pickup. They don't respond, so I am currently stuck in this situation where I have not yet paid for the item but I did some research and discovered that PayPal doesn't refund the buyer on Local Pickup due to there never being any postage to begin with. I've sent the seller a few messages saying that I will pay once they respond.

What should I do in this situation?

Thanks guys

Request cancellation as good chance it's a scam. If no continued response, commence a Resolution Centre complaint ticket for item not received in eBay.

    • would I have to pay for the item first in this case?

If the listing offered a pay on local pickup as mentioned and buyer is non-responsive then no, you just need to demonstrate you offered and didn't get a response so transaction should be cancelled. If in doubt, call eBay support.

If it's any consolation, my wife bought me the Bose qc35 from an eBay seller with only 1 or 2 feedback.

She bought it for $350 and wanted to surprise me and obviously she does not read Ozbargain forums so she went with the cheapest one she saw.

I found out about it once the item has already shipped and I was a bit anxious like you expecting a fake or a scam. But alas, once it arrived (and it was fast delivery too), it was brand new, unopened, and original as I checked the serial number (as described).

Obviously you don't have to take this risk and you can ask eBay support etc but know that there are legit sellers out there too.

    • Tainted property ^

      • Like… someone pressed their taint against it kind of tainted?

    • Yeah definitely, it's not the feedback score that is raising suspension, just that they aren't replying to any of my messages

      Alas?
…. it sounded like you wanted your dear wife to be scammed….. to teach her a lesson?

      • Thank you for teaching me the meaning of alas lol I didn't know until you pointed it out.

Thought it could be used like that… Woops

        • Alas, a lesson was imparted albeit to a different recipient and for a different subject.

  • If you're going to pickup the item & pay cash, then can't you just inspect the item before handing over the cash ?

    • I'm not able to get in contact with them to even suggest doing that

  • How long ago did you buy it? Days or hours?

    • Buy it now on the 6th

      • That’s a reasonable time to wait. I wouldn’t bother with this person then, they sound unreliable. Even if they did eventually respond, they might arrange a time and not shop up.

I've sent the buyer a few messages saying that I will pay once they respond.

Why do you want to pay the buyer?

Local pick up…. but you want or are required to pay first?
    Don’t do it.
Pay on pick up. Maybe take some mates with you.
Definitely tell someone close to you where you are going.

Was it buy it now or auction.
If it is heaps under the usual price most likely the seller doesn’t want to and won’t sell it to you.

    • Thanks but it isn't really the pick up that I'm worried about, it was a buy it now, just frustrated that the seller isn't responsive.

  • Sound like scam if seller not respond close transaction and move on. Normally seller more desperate if not get money. Ask him if you not replay I would have to cancel this transaction. Call eBay, they will cancel for you.

    • Yeah I'll probably end up getting eBay to cancel it but the resolution centre says I need to wait after the 13th

  • sounds like a youtube video title

There is the possibility that the user is genuine and just hasn't sold on ebay before. However, if not, I wouldn't worry.
Contact ebay and tell them the situation.

Never ever had an issue as it's always resolved just by contacting the seller, and in the rare occasion of a seller who doesn't respond, contacting ebay themselves via live chat.
