How Much Do You Trust Can Star Blue for Everyday Grocery Items?

I was craving for some Ice Cream the other day and found out about Can Star Blue (https://www.canstarblue.com.au/groceries/ice-cream-tubs/).

Then I started to read the website a bit more, and decided to try out their recommended bathroom cleaner and toilet papers. I found out that they recommend quite good brands on value for items.

I certainly don't really agree with them on everything (e.g. Dips, Cheese), but for non edible items, I think they are recommending quite good brands. Do you guys follow their recommendation when shopping? I was also surprised by how much ALDI brands are recommended there.

    No.

It's a commercial operation showing you lists that makes them money, the ACCC has already pointed this out multiple times but Australians are sheep that cannot lose enough of their money to work out that they're being scammed.

    • What’s another review website that you trust then?

      • Don't trust any single review website for anything. Everything is subjective, opinions differ and you don't know who's genuine and who's been paid. Sure, for large purchases like say a car, read many different reviews online from different journalists to form an opinion. For a game, watch videos and read critic reviews etc. For edibles though? Surely it's just trial and error to see which one you like instead of someone telling you what to buy. For other items like cleaners then similar, surely you have better things to do than reading up on bathroom cleaner products rather than buying what's on offer and giving it a go..

          Choice?

@mbck: Similar to Which in the UK, I never understood paying money for a subscription to be given subjective review of something and have them tailor your purchases. I would rather get real life user reviews on products to inform my own opinion and/or just try things myself.

            • @Hybroid: I just hope they're not bought out and are actually independent.

As long as these reviewers are independent, paying for these services are ok tbh. E.g., you wouldn't buy any random washing machine.

But for some consumable, yeah I agree, id try them myself

Sadly, you're mistaken… It seems that discussing this thing in Ozbargain forum is also a good pass time of ours.

There's a fantastic site called Ozbargain. One of the highlights is a recent review of Mr Chen's prawn rolls.

  • I don't trust most reviews as most of them sound like this:

Wow. Amazing product. It is so good. <Insert more adjectives>. I can tell you it's the best because I am <insert some sort of qualification>.

You want to know what great reviews look like, read how Alan Hawk (Fishing reels) or AvE (YouTuber for tools) does it.

That's how you do a review.

How god damn bored are you that you are reading reviews before buying toilet paper? Make a choice and move on with life!

    • You know, I used to think it is stupid. Now that I think about it, I do want the best quality and value for money products in my groceries. I don't wanna scrub my toilet harder than I have to if there is a better product out there with the same price.

      • I don't wanna scrub my toilet harder

If that's what you think toilet paper is for, then maybe you should be reading reviews for basic items.

lol I mean toilet cleaner this time. I buy more than just a toilet paper.

  • Never let anyone decide my judgement of which brand I should or shouldn't buy and or try, when I go shopping. As it's my money, my choice. NEVER looked at CanStar or any other sites like these are they get paid commission anyway either way.
