Telstra Plan Change from Contract to Month-on-Month via Telstra Online without Any Early Plan Change Fees

It seems one can now switch Telstra on contract plans to month-on-month plan via https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/sim-only-plans

When prompted select Upgrade Existing service.

The plan change fees are automatically waived off. No need to contact customer care via chat.

Note: If one time fees are waived-off then you would see $0 as the one time fees in the final summary page.

If I changed to a current plan from my grandfathered plan I would be paying more for far less data & far less inclusions on roaming. Please check carefully that the deal is better before you move to these latest plans.

    • Heads up they announced that by end of this year everyone will need to go on new plans as they will be completely retiring grandfathered plans to simplify their systems.

      • If they do that they’ll need to let me out of contract early (will look carefully at bills for the detrimental notice) & then I will likely port away. Have had far too many issues on Telstra’s network in Brisbane CBD to be paying them the usual Telstra premium.

  • Just moved using that link from the JB Hifi plans. Didn't see any exit $$$ hopefully they don't sting me with it.

    • They won't. You can double check with an agent if you want.

      • Plan got changed already looks good. Will keep an eye on the bill just in case, been effed by Optus before so I am super wary haha

        • How did you go with your final bill

        • Did you only get 1 bill?
did you move to pre-paid after the M2M or even leave telstra?

  • cant see upgrade existing. m missing something??

    • You sure are. It’s literally the first thing shown when you select one of the four plans.

  • personal plans are same cost as business now. I swapped 3 phones to the $50 plans and got $10 discount on each.

FWIW it only seems to waive outstanding contact costs, and not outstanding handset repayments

    • Unfortunately. Oh well.

    • So no free iPads?

Keep in mind that the new plans got rid of data share.

    • Unless you go with Business SIM only

  • They changed the business rules when they launched the new plans.
You can do it online, in store , over phone or live chat.
There are no exit fees if you change to new plan provided you stay at same or higher value $$$ wise.

If you on a handset plan you will trigger a handset payout though just FYI.

Changed my 12m sim to new m2m a week or so ago.

  • If I do this, can I just port out once the plan had been changed?

I'm on a JB HI-FI plan that will expire Sept 30. I'd like to switch to boost and I think this would be a good way to avoid the ETC.

So switch to new Telstra plan, then port next day.

    • I am not sure if Telstra will bill you for a part month, if not you would have to pay $50 for the month with telstra and also $30(assumed) with boost for the same month.

I'm switching to the 12m 150$ boost deal.

I'm also not sure whether Telstra would bill $50 or pro-rated. It does say minimum cost $50, though. So one could assume, full $50 for the first month.

It's not clear from CIS. It says minimum monthly charge and not Minimum Charge. In any case, I have given it a shot. Will come to know soon I guess. Will update this thread based on my final bill.

          • @interstellar: Hi buddy, did u get charged ETC for changing the plans?

            • @mazeem82: I got my bill yesterday. I have been only charged until the day of port out. Hope that helps. I did get charged for the remaining amount of my device repayment.

  • If you have a ABN better off on business now as the plans are the same and data is shareable. Personal used to be better, cheaper and more data.

    • Do business now offer plans with included roaming without daily charges?

      • no, neither do.

  • Its not worth when you are paying $45 per month for 30gig data and Pixel 2 on plan. Does anyone can do better than this to move from plan to month2 month?

  • anyone know if after you transfer from the contract to m2m, you can move up and down the plans? basically I'm looking at a $65 plan through jb, then moving to an $80 m2m, then moving down to the $60?

    • will be fine, move next month onwards

  • Doing this , will I lost my Telstra phone credit ?
