Planning a USA Trip for Next Year - Buy Now or Wait and See What Economy Does?

I was thinking of taking a trip to the States around June next year.

With their economy going downhill and the prospect of a trade war with China looming, I was wondering if I should book now in case the Aussie dollar falls lower or wait and see if tourism slows down and airlines start slashing prices?

Yes all the economists on the world are analysing the situation 247 so they can advise you whether you can book a holiday now or later.

    • tell them to hurry it up i'm waiting lol

  • Almost impossible to tell. However, you usually get better prices on air fares and accomodation if you book a fair way out. I wouldn’t worry so much about the dollar, against the US, because there isn’t much you can do. However, I would start looking at air fare and accomodation deals.

Where are you thinking of visiting?

    • disneyland to see the new star wars rides + las vegas
they are the two priorities i might add some side trips later

When we went to Disneyland we used a book similar to this site. They did open the park early and we got onto the popular rides before the queues became too long. Look into FASTPASS. Personally I would recommend September rather than June, prices are generally cheaper and accomodation is easier to get. We also booked our accomodation from a tourist information place in Anaheim, but this was pre internet.

For Vegas you are best booking mid week, accomodation tends to be cheaper. I would, also, recommend a side trip to the Grand Canyon. June is also likely to be pretty hot there. There are some free shuttles

  • Probably find plane tickets decline in price (as no-one is buying from AU) but once in the USA everything is expensive due to the dollar difference.

  • Search for los angeles sale fare history. You've got a bit of time and airlines will start having sales to LA. 800ish direct is what you should be aiming for

  • i mainly picked june because there's a convention i'd like to go to https://www.acecomiccon.com/

they have another one in october so maybe i could go to that but apparently crowds are down at disneyland and galaxy's edge if they don't pick up then it might be shut down by october

  • I'm going to the States next year around that time as well.

Oddly enough there was heaps of deals for $750-850 return a month ago (Melb>LAX or SFO) but they've all dried up. Personally I'm waiting until Nov/Dec to buy.
