Any Tips for Buying Lotto Tickets Online

gday members
just curious to know if there are ways to pay for lotto tickets online without compromising your transaction in the statements?
I have tried prepaid cards but they failed and cannot be used for gambling purchases.
It's just the convenience of buying it using the app, than using cash at store.
note: the amount spent less than $10 per week.

  • Arm transfer to account. Using credit card will incur a cash advance

Over your lifetime you are mathematically expected to get back around a third of the money you put into lotteries. It's only $10 per week, but $520 per year. Would an extra $520 come in handy at Christmas?

I had a friend who said that gambling is a tax on people who don't understand statistics. It is no use pointing out to people they are losing money on it. We understand the whole thing but it doesn't stop us buying a tattslotto ticket when the figures get enormous. Even tattslotto call it a ticket to dream.

tattslotto call it a ticket to dream

Tattslotto is like a pimp and you're the trick paying for something you could have for nothing.

        • I fully understand that I have almost no chance of winning but I can afford the ticket and I don’t do it often. If you enter you have a very small chance of winning, if you don’t enter you have none. I’m not sure what your “something you could have for nothing” comes from. Millions of dollars don’t drop in my lap just randomly.

      • When the figures get enormous enough it starts to get mathematically worth buying a ticket.

  • So you are a gambling addict and you don't want your partner to find out?
Btw , answer to your question is No.

I suggest having a 'free and frank' exchange of views with the person who objects to you spending money on lotteries.

Just tell them that you're going to spend it & that that!

They might get upset in the short-term, but in the long-term being open & honest is good for relationships.

    Uh … separate bank account?

We won't be here on Ozbargain if we have tips that work! Sorry, that relates on buying, not sure how to hide your transaction though!

OzLotteries uses PayPal. You can’t pay from your PayPal balance, but when paying from linked bank account it shows up as PayPal

OzLotteries also charge more for their tickets.

Notced that but I don’t think you can join syndicates on tatts/Lott.
        Haven’t looked much further.

Probably a previously-banned member trying to get back in with a new account…

  • Visa debit card.

  • I sometimes use PayPal to buy a lottery ticket once in a while. Though I know my chances of winning are remote, I'm a pensioner and get my income from tax payers money I feel the $200?pa is my contribution towards giving some people a lucky break. Even though I don't seem to win, dozens of people each week do win nice amounts and I'm just glad I can contribute to that for a small sacrifice. And who knows, you have to be in it to win it, you never know.

I bet (pun intended) that the OP is on Centrelink Cashless Debit card. It’s not supposed to be used for gambling

  • @Jamie Newcastle Exactly what I was going to write. And I'm on Newstart too.

Might as well ask for tips laundering money.

Why bother anonymising a $10 weekly spend on lotto?

    I'm really missing something here.

  • If you must buy online, buy from www.thelott.com which represents Australia's Official Lotteries. The Lott charges the same prices for tickets that newsagents charge.

The Lott is the mark of trust that unites Australia's Official Lotteries by Tatts (Tattersall's Sweeps Pty Ltd), Tatts NT (Tatts NT Lotteries Pty Ltd), NSW Lotteries (NSW Lotteries Corporation Pty Ltd), Golden Casket (Golden Casket Lottery Corporation Limited) and SA Lotteries (Tatts Lotteries SA Pty Ltd) under one banner.

Don't buy from other third-party lottery websites as they will charge additional commission/fees.

    • Agree. Use The Lott. You can pay via paypal or credit card.

Other tips include buying more tickets, PowerHit tickets and System 10 or higher.
