What Are Your Thoughts on Kogan Monitors?

I was recently looking for a good 1440p 75hz monitor (annoyingly hard to find) and came across this one from Kogan (link at the bottom). It looks pretty great, everything I've been looking for (1440p, 27", 75hz, Vesa mount, IPS) for under $300 (even at the normal $350 price point it seems good).

But knowing how rough the monitor market is, a perfect combo definitely makes me think there's gotta be some major drawback. So I'm looking for feedback from anyone who owns this. Specifically the one linked, but if you own a different version may as well throw them here in case either I change my mind or someone else is looking at a Kogan monitor.

I'd normally just check via google, but putting in Kogans title seems to only draw results for the 144hz monitor.

Some things not totally related here, I'm not going to be buying for a few months yet (will be waiting till I build my new rig). But figured if I'd check now, else I'll probably end up continuing looking for all that time. There also seems to be a few sales going on for monitors on their site - specifically noticed that ultrawide running for $500 again - if anyone wanted to throw that into a deal post.

There is the increased 'risk' of getting a monitor with dead or stuck pixels. Generally speaking no-name monitors use B-grade panels manufactured by big names like Samsung / LG, these panels are tested by the manufacturer and might've failed some kind of strict quality test (thus given a b-grade label) Instead of throwing them away, they are sold at cheap prices on the wholesale market and live on as no-name budget alternatives.

When you buy a cheap monitor you might also sacrifice some build quality (particularly the rigidity) of the stand and chassis, and the stand is also quite a bit more basic (no height adjust for instance). Warranty on that Kogan is also one year, while more premium monitors might get covered for few years.

Warranty on that Kogan is also one year

According to some comments I have read here on ozb, during that 1-year they are also difficult to deal with when it comes to faulty products and after-sale support.

I’ve also read, mostly on the mechanical keyboards posts, that their post sales support are pretty good. Stuck left shift buttons, with a video of problem Kogan just posts a replacement item at no further cost etc, no need to send back the other keyboard. Very easy to deal with.

I often think how one approaches the company asking for help really defines their response.

Here’s example, sorry I dunno how to link a comment.

I had my left shift key stick every few presses, and I too had to send a video of the problem. They sent a replacement immediately and it arrived the same week

        • I think with something priced cheap and cheap to ship (return and replacement) is always going to be more easy going.
Regarding the ‘keep it’, it is still a transaction, they are willing to take the loss on something cheap, in-return for quick resolution / better image / feedback.

Yes I agree how you approach, and also the circumstances can affect the outcome greatly.
It also only applies when the product you get has a problem. There are plenty who buy and have zero issues at least in the short-term.

I personally prefer shops with physical stores when possible (where you can deal with issues in-person), and for online only I am confident with Amazon AU service (provided you buy Fulfilled by Amazon).

True, but I’ve heard similar experiences with tv issues etc too. So wouldnt just say oh a $40-$50 is “cheap” and doesn’t apply to a $200 monitor or anything.

Yea I’m kinda old school like that too :)

      • Bought a TV a couple of years ago and it broke after a couple of months, Kogan were horrible to deal with.
They took so long i ended up buying a Samsung and then they said they would replace it only, i had to threaten Fair Trading and ACCC to get a full refund.

I got https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-34-wqhd-curved-219-ultraw… when it was on special and love it - zero complaints, but acknowledge the stand isn't height adjustable (my desk has a shelf riser that the monitor sits on, so no issue for me, but would be too low if it was a standard desk)

    Bought this https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-32-ultra-hd-4k-ips-monito…

Surprisingly good as a second screen for chat etc.

  • Avoid kogan like the plague. Their 4k tv I got was rubbish, poor screen quality and the in built apps couldn't handle 4k content. Sluggish UI.
Most recently a family member bought a mini PC from them. Came preloaded with viruses.
    Go anywhere else.

    • Yes there are certain products from Kogan you must avoid like the plague.
One other I remember someone mentioning was the automated photo-scanner.

    • Speaking of appalling UI avoid Samsung, it’s so bad I want a dumb tv instead of smart tv.

      • My impression was that alll smart-TV’s had poor slow UI. I do remember Samsung or another brand having targeted ads in their UI (which I think is poor taste).

Hi mate, I recently purchased their 27" 1440 144 curved.
Did a fair amount of research beforehand - I love it, great monitor.
I do agree about being careful with Kogan, I think they sell some great value products..and some crap.

    Happy to answer any questions

    • What are your thoughts on it after these few months?

    • I am also looking at the 27" curved 1440 144Hz for 359$

can you update as to how you like yours now ? what games are you using it for ?

and when does Kogan usually start its discounts in November for products ? I signed up for the kogan credit card to get free postage , and now I am waiting for the discounts to happen

  • Have just come across this monitor. 27" 1440p 75hz and IPS for $300~. Has an adjustable stand but appears to lack freesync.

    Any thoughts on this one?

    • Nevermind on this. Appears to have a high response time.

  • You know what, I regret buying one. Because it would blink twice, always, on refresh rate or whatever the crap happens changes.

And kogan after service didn't help much.
