Looking for a One Plus 6

Edited : 25/8 Please find me a bargain :)

Hi there,

When the Mrs and I were separated, we used a spare phone as the emergency phone and whoever had the kids for the day had the phone. The kids had memorised the phone number and it made it simpler for the school, tutors, their friends' parents…etc to contact us. Our kids fondly call it the Batphone.

This system worked so well that we're still using it 4 years later. The bat phone is a Oneplus one which refuses to die. However we're thinking of retiring it as it's been having reception issues and replacing it with possibly another Oneplus.

Requirements :

  • phone needs to have good reception in metro areas, including band 28.

  • this is the only phone that gets used to access ozbargain.

  • kids will sometime use it to video-call Grandparents or cousins and play games while in the car.

  • to take photos of the kids.

I almost pulled the trigger on the oneplus 7 but it's probably an overkill for what we need. Is there any good deal on a One plus 6?

Cheers,
JJB

do grandparents have an iPhone, maybe the batphone should be an iPhone so it can FaceTime as well as Skype or whatever android uses. plus if it's an iPhone the kids will know where it is at all times because kids go bananas for iPhones.

    • My kids go bananas for my MotoZ with projector attachment. Mum's iPhone is boring. Just sayin' …..

    • They use viber to call grandparents.

      Edit: I didn't neg you.

Recommending an iPhone to kids or grandparents is fighting words to some android fanboys, makes them feel threatened, like "OMG someone said something that isn't negative about iPhone, got to do something about that! Can't just leave that unaddressed!"

    • :)

  • MotoZ2 Force can be bought for <300. Unbreakable screen so when the kids drop it… No worries

    • The kids have never dropped the BP. It's the BP! It gets treated with all due respect by the kids. My wife, on the other hand, has dropped it twice in the toilet :( For some reason , we all really want to stick to a oneplus to replace the OPO.

Go for a Moto G7 Plus for around $350.

It's specs are just decent enough (QSD 636/4GB/64GB) and has the familiar Stock UI you're used to. And if it breaks/lost/stolen/toilet, no problem, it was cheap. You can get local support/warranty as well. It might not be as good a value as say that $400 deal for the Sony XZ1 Premium (or LG V30), but its a frequent deal that you can pick up anytime. I think a $550 Samsung S9 Plus might be overkill.

While you're at it, check out the recent deals by Jeenee (15GB for $19/month) or Boost (35GB for $33/month) or Boost (80GB for $140/year).

        • Thanks! we're all very attached to getting a One Plus to replace the OPO. An OP6 would have been ideal as it has a headphone Jack and would ideally be under the $500 mark by now. Can't find any deals atm on one though :(

We're currently on a $30 plan from optus, which includes 30GB of data + unlimited txts and talk. $19 from Jeenee sounds good as we probably average the 10-12GB usage per month on that particular phone. I'll look into it. Cheers.

I can't edit the OP for some reasons but I'm no longer looking . Got a oneplus 7, an overkill but our current batphone was on its last leg. Needed a replacement ASAP.
