SUPERLOOP vs AussieBB

Hi guys,

Looking at getting NBN and narrowed it down to 2 - Superloop and Aussie.

For those who are with either ISPs, what are the pros and cons?

Usage for Youtube, Netflix, streaming sports. No gaming.

Was previously with Optus ADSL.

Thanks in advance!

AussieBB if you don't want to repeat your personal details several times before a "technician" tells you to restart your modem.

    • Tshow suggests if you go with ABB you will be on the phone with phone with them with problems?

I’d prefer a isp where I don’t need to contact them.

ABB has a very good and quick ticket raising system through their app, you do not always have to call them
and if you have any issues (which are caused by NBN not ABB and wont matter what retailer you are on) they tend to alert you before you even realise there is an issue

I too would prefer an ISP that I don't have to contact but shit happens.

I haven't had to call ABB except when I had to diagnose an issue that was ultimately caused by damaged cabling.

If it was Telstra… bloody hell…

you will be on the phone with phone with them with problems

        MS Paint drawing please.

    • I saw on a few articles ABB isn't giving users the speeds they're paying for.

      • Links?
They repeatedly top customer satisfaction surveys and are known for delivering the speeds they promise

Would be interested to see articles that state otherwise

        • ACCC would suggest others provide similar speeds as ABB, Aussie speeds are not really anything special.

          • @cloudy: given their speed promises and average speeds are closer to each other I disagree.

Why someone would choose a provider promising average speeds in the 80’s on a 100 plan is beyond me.

ACCC is not the be all and end all.
They do not check every retailer
They test for minutes in each time period
They do not do real world tests, simply speed tests.

I am more inclined to trust customer feedback which is far higher for companies like ABB etc.

I mean ACCC rates my republic and TPG highly where as customer reviews and forum posts say otherwise (personal experience says otherwise also)

            • @jimbobaus: From what I read, ABB got fined for not even disclosing their expected speeds.

ACCC is not the be all and end all.

ACCC is not the be all and end all, but it's more comprehensive than some dudes on the net i'd say. But I guess we all go to dudes on the net for car accident advice, and legal advice hey? ozbargain way? lol, fair enough.

They do not check every retailer

They do not check every retailer, but they do include ABB, hence why the discussion. :)

They test for minutes in each time period

Yes they do test for every time period, better than no test right? Do you know of a more comprehensive test?

They do not do real world tests, simply speed tests.

this is incorrect, they use testing method that best mimics real world use. No test is perfect, but they use the best known.

My Republic is not highly, lol, its one of the lower rated ISP on their report.

TPG is rated number 1, I've read dozens of bad TPG reviews, but they have millions of customers. Law of large numbers says it's expected to have some people who complain. I guess as Tshow said, sometimes the net goes down and it's not even the ISP fault. Lots of people just complain first.
I'm not saying TPG has the best customer service, I'm saying they have the fastest internet, if that's what OP is interested in, if OP is interested in having a chat on the phone, ABB is certainly top quality for that.

  • On par with each other from my experience. I left Abb for Superloop about 6 months ago because they had some offers going on (free first month, plan is cheaper by $5) and nowadays there's very little difference in terms of speed.

Not sure about their tech support / telephone waiting times though, never had to deal with Superloop on the phone before.

  • Thanks for the prompt responses! Any deals going around for either of them at the moment?

Was with ABB before and switched to Superloop after the initial ABB deal expired and prices increased for me.

Can't say I noticed any difference in terms of speed and reliability. Superloop has been on par with ABB.

Haven't so far needed to talk with Superloop (since haven't had any issues in 6+ months since joining) so can't comment on that. Although, the wait times with ABB were in excess of 30 mins whenever I called.

  • Longest i have waited on phone with ABB: 13 mins
Saying that usually raise a ticket through the app or they have already alerted me that their is an issue

cant speak to Superloop.. until today i had never even heard of them :P

  • +1

No experience with superloop but I will tell you about ABB, maybe someone will pitch in about their superloop experience to compare.

    Internet service
Extremely Solid NBN 50 plan on HFC with evening speeds as advertised and fairly easy to get max speed offpeak.
    No complaints here

    Customer Service
-Typical call wait times have been under 5 min for me the fastest they got to me was actually about 20 seconds which really surprised me
-you get someone on the phone you can actually understand
-Their app is amazing with all the features you need to diagnose connection issues (Connection test and kicking, loopback test and ntd status scanning)
-They will either email, sms or notify through app (your preference)of any outages or planned maintenance and then notify once again when its reconnected

    other
-they don't charge dumb fees that my previous telco would charge like relocation and connection fees.

    Had both. Both were fine.

You already replied in the comment above.

      You must have forgot.

  • Thanks for everyone's input.

    A few more things:

    Any modem recommendations?

How long does it usually take to get NBN up and running? (I believe I have HFC)

    Thanks!
