Cheap snow gear in Brisbane please?

I'm planning a ski trip to NZ in Aug and would like to get kitted up before going. Aldi's latest catalogues had real good bargains, however my local Aldi store (Salisbury in Brisbane) was completely gutted of all snow gear on the first day :( I'm thinking of going to the Springwood store on Saturday and try my luck, and my friends will look for them at his two local stores in Capalaba (to save me a wasted trip if they are out of stock too). I was told Carindale Aldi would be gutted already.

Do you guys know of any places with sales, or up coming sales in Brisbane? Or Aldi stores that still have decent stock left of the snow gear? Thanks.

  • Hello

Just some food for thought. Carindale Aldi got gutted in 10 mins which was the product of over ambitious money savers grabbing every size of an item and sorting out which would fit after. I am assuming all other stores got the same treatment. A few things you may want to think about:

    1) On my last trip i got some Aldi thermals and gloves. The gloves fell apart and i have to buy another set this time, but the thermals are still going strong and they were surprisingly good during the trip.
    - Thus i recommend if you buy anything get some thermals and / or some socks (moisture wicking) to keep you comfortable and thats about it. The rest of it is cheap for a reason. Its junk. Furthermore due to the fact that you will be in NZ right in the middle of winter i suggest you don't go cheap on outwear.

    2) The ski shop at Dallas Parade, Keperra (i think its called snow central now) has some fantastic quality gear at very very reasonable prices. Back in February I saw my jacket there that i paid around $300 for in 06 (it was an 07 jacket) for about $150 (brand new just a yr old.) They probably still have some old season stock with good prices.

Anyway i recommend you go there. (another option is Snowbiz in the city but they are generally quite expensive even with gear on sale.)

Let me know if you have any more questions…

Have fun in NZ i'm leaving for Queenstown in late July
