Over 80% of pork consumed in Australia is imported! That's shocking! I'd have thought we would have a greater supply here.
More Aussie pork for my fork!

And now we are importing GAS from overseas when we have our OWN supplies! Go figure. 😒🐷

Pork with bone in MUST be Australian. Can't import the bones. Other wise check the label, some businesses are aussie pork. Most not.

Bacon etc comes mostly from Canada.

Used to work at Don smallgoods in Altona. Seen the boxes of frozen pork meat in huge chillers.

Pork with bone in MUST be Australian.

You had me worried - that would explain the cheap boneless shoulder and leg roasts in Coles.
But I just checked and they are Australian.

Where is all that "Over 80% of pork consumed in Australia is imported!" ? In sausages and bacon?

        •

Sausages, bacon, almost all the smallgoods like salami/prosciutto/etc… From my personal experience people don't actually eat a lot of "fresh" pork like pork roasts, steaks, and chops compared to other meats like chicken or beef.

            @Baarawr: That is a shame.
Pork chops and roasts are much healthier than the processed meats, but still delicious.

Checking coles, the raw sausages are Australian pork, but the bacon is made in Australia from imported meat.

On top of sausages etc mentioned by others, the Pork supplied for food service is often on a different supply chain than the supermarket, and may well be imported if that's cheaper. Restaurants love cheap pork for the pulled pork trend.

1kg per month is nowhere near a years supply….. :-)

Now that's one hell of a comp, I was also shocked at the 80% imported that's a crime

    This question stumped me:

      1. When do you think is the best time to eat bacon?

    Where is "ALL THE TIME"?

Also, I had a look at the packaged bacon products at Coles last night and found most of them had less than 20% ingredients from Australia on them…That's crazy.

I couldn't complete the survey because it wouldn't let me tick all the boxes. Just picking one of them would be lying and lying is bad.

You can't trust anyone who refuses to eat a bacon & egg roll.
