Experience of Using Bunnings Product Review Feature

I was interested to hear if anyone else had an informative experience with using Bunnings new product review feature. I submitted a one star review for a Bunnings item that I felt was, factual with supporting photos, only to have it knocked back by their moderators with the comment…

"Sorry, your review cannot be published. Our team have read your review and it did not meet all of our review guidelines. You can edit your review and submit again, or write a different review."

No explanation of which guidelines the review violated. They went on to say…

"If you would like a follow up call related to your review, please reply with your phone number and one of our team members will get back to you."

I immediately replied with my phone number but, so far, silence.

I decided to read in detail their review submission Ts&Cs and I think I might have dodged a bullet by not having my review published.

Apparently you are required to indemnify them "harmless from all claims of every kind and nature", while at the same time they are allowed to modify your review, and prevent you from editing, or deleting your review. So unless you can prove the review had been modified by them, it looks like you could be screwed.

  • Pretty much the same for me. You have to damn it with faint praise.

Look at any reviews on there, none are negative.

i have done this a fair few sites and with negative reviews i always get knocked back, usually i send the review to a point of contact and state the reason which when they look into they can see and understand and they still dont publish them.

jbhifi seems to be a place that i can throw a negative review and if basic and not detailed gets a thumbs up.

positive detailed reviews are always a gold star for the retailer.

create an alert for the product on ozbargain

next time you get on here, post a real review, detailed. not just "product is shit"

will be archived for all to see.

It's a good idea but perhaps better to add "……once posted initially then you can choose to retain the alarm so you can copy and paste into any new listing, otherwise it will only be seen by those who go back to look at old posts."

  • They are not the one not one who have this type of business practise.

Another came across amazon, taotronics, leitner bikes etc

Taotronics even offered me free gift to write positive review where mine was 3 star rated.

Post your review here so we can all judge you

    • -5

happy for my review to be judged, but I do not see why it is necessary for everyone to judge me. sounds like ozb has become a bit toxic.

You might want to leave a review about OzB over on ProductReview…

The doctor review website healthengine are facing huge fines for this kind of conduct (as well as selling data). They'd get a review that was like "the doctor is horrible, do not go here, he assaulted me. Thankfully the receptionist helped me called the police" and change it to a positive review "the receptionist helped me": https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-08-08/healthengine-facing-m…

Be interesting to see if the ACCC go after any other big players.

    • Would that have more to do with health professionals suing the website over what might be construed as libel, or some form of hearsay, if the identity of the poster, and incident cannot be verified? I agree that negative reviews shouldn’t be rejected out of hand, however, there’s probably room for abuse of a party that wishes to damage a professionals image, or reputation, particularly if it’s on a site that suggests a degree of authority on the reputation of health professionals?

In my mind it would make more sense to either just have a star system rating, or not have ratings at all.

I don’t know, it’s tricky, I can see it from both sides.

  • UPDATE: So I have just received a phone call from Bunnings. They have re-moderated my review, and they have changed their decision. They are now going to publish it. Apparently the first decision was a mistake.
