It Seems OnePlus' OxygenOS Has a Glitch Might Give You Billshock

What I have experienced:

For the dual sim model, I have the mobile data set to SIM1, as well as default voice call, messaging on SIM1.

I took the sim 1 out, put the sim tray back.

Then the phone automatically switched the mobile data to SIM2 for you.
(Actually your phone's default SIM for voice call, messaging, mobile data will all be changed to SIM2,
when you put the SIM1 back, the voice call, messaging will change back to SIM1 where they were, but the mobile data will keet at SIM2).

There's no question, no prompt, no notification.

When you are using the mobile network, there's no sign anywhere telling you which sim card you are using for the mobile data.

It quickly drained out my prepaid Pay As You Go sim card's credit. Luckily it's only $20 in the credit. It's not my international roaming card.

In the system I can not find anywhere to set the APN for a given sim card, I used to change the APN for a sim card, make it invalid/wrong APN so that sim card would
not use mobile data at all. But this setting is missing in OxygenOS?

Just for your reference.
Be careful with such 'smart decision' by the developer.

  • FWIW…

I have an Oneplus 5, with dual sim. Personal sim (sim1) and Work sim (sim2).

In the Sim settings i can assign a default sim for Voice calls (sim1), Messaging (sim1) and Mobile data (sim2).

As well as a "smart call back" function, where the phone remembers which sim was used for phone calls and uses that sim for subsequent calls.

I have not attempted the OP's scenario of removing the sims and then returning them, as i have no need to remove either of them.

So with these settings available, it is clear which sim is used for which function and you shouldn't need to fudge the APN.

ALthough i agree that if you don't realise the sim defaults to the original sim for data usage, you could be in for a surprise come bill day.

  • i dare say its down to the OS and how it handles 2 sims.

my LG Q7 uses both sims for calls, sms, although only one can be used for data which you can select. also it has the smart call forwarding that redirects calls from one sim to another if you are on a call at that point in time.
