Suggestion for travel over New Year shutdown period?

Hi there, starting to get really burnt out from work and thinking about a short break over the Christmas shutdown period 27/12-05/01 (approx) w/partner.

Looking for some suggestions for good domestic short breaks. Have had my eyes set on a great barrier reef trip to spend time relaxing and recharging but don't want to break the bank.

Have had a few trips to Europe/America but not many trips in Australia, apart from the South/North coast of NSW due to proximity.

Any tips for bargains over this period or great places worth a visit? If it's going to cost a fortune might be better off going international.

Thanks!

    Errr No?

    • To be fair, flights from Sydney to Townsville on OP's dates is only $309 return. Sounds like a bargain to me.

      • Yeah, not a complete tight-ass just don't want to pay through the teeth for no reason.

  • I see your profile says you are in Sydney. Have you tried any local hike/camping spots?

    • Have been around the East coast for a fair few smaller trips, really nice just wanted something a bit different.

  • dominos storefront

    • Cheap enough but not good for the summer waistline

Oh wait, scrap that first question.

    • I wish, all those benefits. (Un)fortunately construction.

    • Most office jobs have Christmas shutdown periods.

Fly to Adelaide, hire a small camper and do a few days on the Eyre peninsula - eg: Perlubie Beach. Finish with a day or two in the Adelaide hills.

    • Thanks for the suggestion, will look into it!

Go to cairns, drive up to cape tribulation (2 hours)

    • Will look in to it, sounds nice!
