Cheap Men Haircut in Melbourne ?

Hello all ,

I am after a hairdresser who does a good haircut

Factors to consider are :

1) Preferably Japanese hairdresser
2) Someone who can give a good fade
3) cheap ($10-20)
4) CBD or close to CBD

Thanks all :)

  • Not sure what a good f**K boy fade is. Having said that if one takes out the fade it costs more than $10-$20…..

there are heaps out in the suburbs who does it for around $15-17 but its too far out for me to head that way for a monthly haircut

      • I don't know why you got negged as it seems like too many are extremely sensitive with posts these days however I can vouch that I pay $15 for a cut in Melbourne's North but he's not Japanese though :P

    Why Japanese?

Do they posses greater hair cutting skills than others?

Trust me , once you've tried a jap hairdresser you wouldn't want to change … they are generally trained to be real detailed with their cuts. (most of them)

I've been in Japan a while, quality varies. I've had some crappy expensive cuts, and awesome cheap ones.

The decent ones are pretty detailed though, as you say. Recently had one of the most meticulous cuts of my life, which was nice.

Then again, I still think back on a Korean hairdresser I had years ago who basically attacked my head with clippers in one of the roughest and quickest cuts I've ever had. Put my glasses back on expecting the worst.
It was a really good haircut. She knew what she was doing and didn't waste any time doing it.

I lived in Japan for a year and had about six haircuts. I can't recall anything particularly detailed about them, other than the often painful neck/head beating at the end of it. Perhaps my hairstyle at that time didn't require any special skills. Achingly polite though.

Here in Canberra it's $20 for a buzz cut. Tom Gleeson once said that the haircut makes up to 80% of the personality of a Melbournite (Melburnian?). Is that true?

  • good luck

  • gumtree has ads for haircut models for trainee hairdressers. basically a free cut in a salon

I tried once, one of the best cuts I've had. The girl was pretty crap and slow and it took like 2 hours for a pretty basic mens cut and everyone else in the store clearly hated her cause she was hopeless. But the store manager was in charge, and kept checking and cleaning up her work, and it turned out awesome. A regular cut in that store would have been almost $100, and it felt like that's what I got

A lot of China towns in Melbourne offer $8.00 to $10.00 per head. I used to go to Springvale where it cost me $8.00 per head. The owner is very friendly and his service is no. one. He would please you at all his might. However now I cut my hair myself being lazy going out plus I don’t have many hairs left.

    • ahh right i was thinking that too, anyone in china town in particular ?

  • $10 haircut inside Tivoli Arcade. Shop with the purple sign seen in this picture https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-H66OOuiy7x8/V2EHcleMGSI/AAAAAAAAA…

great find ! have you been before ?

      • I was there yesterday. They do a very good job imo for $10 as in they take their time and make sure you are happy with the cut before you leave. Only annoying thing is that sometimes you just have to be prepared for a 20-30 min wait if you go at peak times e.g. after work

    • I have visited this place and when I was due for another haircut, I visited a barber who instantly noticed all the mistakes i.e. didnt blend well. In their defense, there are so many hairdressers and could've been luck of the draw.

      • mmm guess its the chance I have to take for $10 haha

    • Is this shop still open? Google says the mall is closed.

  • There are plenty - you just need to set your expectations at that price point.
    I pay $38 for my haircut, - my lunches m-f are $5-7.
