Reasonable Price for Pest Extermination

Hi all.

It's been 3 years since we had a pest treatment. The ants started too take over and we also had a termite treatment. The ants are now back so I'm looking at getting someone to treat them again. Previously we used a well known company which came with a guarantee which I think was for six months. We had them come back so in all they had to treat for 3 times.

I'm wondering if $340 is a reasonable price for a single storey home treatment indoor and outside for a 3 bedroom house. This will include treatment for spiders, ants, cockroaches and silverfish including in the roof and underfloor space. We are in Blacktown so any recommendations would also be appreciated. Should we just go with the people we used previously as there was no hassle getting them back? Although I'm wondering if the job was done properly because of the fact they had to do it three times.

Thanks for any advice you are willing to share.

Go to Aldi and buy a dozen bombs.

Are you leaving food out? I only got ants one time when my cats didn't like their food and left it sitting there overnight. I cleaned it up and there were no more ants.

  • I got charged $110 for pest control for a 2 Bed unit when I left my unit. (There wasn't any major pest issue. It was just their standard call-out price.) For my new unit, I got robbed and charged $300 just for cockroach treatment for a 3 bed unit.

So, $340 for a 3bed house, inside and outside doesn't seem too unreasonable.

Finding tradies who are inexpensive and will also do a good job is really hard. If your old pest control guys did a good job at an OK price then by all means call them back. Pests are really tough, so your having to call the control guys back a few times was not necessarily because they did a bad job.

  • I do an annual pest control that's inside and outside about $180. I have 5 bedroom single storey house with double garage on 600sqm block.

he sprays gutters, fence, house perimeter decks and pergola and under house treatment with powder. internally he does inside perimeter of entire house and under appliances,

I find little point in fighting bugs, the chemicals hurt good and bad ones, and us too, it just takes longer to notice.

    There are free options, too:

If you get an infestation check to see what their two major sources are- food and water. Without those, they will leave.

My mum left some meat in the bin after a few months of being lazy about screwing tops on jars in the cupboard, each time we'd close them up but they'd become so used to having a smorgasboard one week and a better one the next, when she left some meat scraps in the bin that night they decides to setup a subsidiary nest beside it, so it seemed a little out of hand when I opened the door. Still, easy to clean up, I just used an old cloth to wipe the ants into the bin and put the bag outside. Vacuumed the rest and emptied the bag in the vacuum, left it outside too so they had time to climb out and find somewhere else to go before the rubbish truck came.

Other things can bring them in, like sudden rainstorms that flood their nests so they rush up trying to find somewhere safe to temporarily relocate their young-uns. This happened a couple of months ago- I found my printer's scanner full of them right under the glass. I just turned it off, so the standby transformer cooled down. After 3 days they all moved out and left it perfectly clean.

Ants do clean up crumbs and other bits so not bad to have around so long as they don't come in quantity. They just come for food. We find they discover lids loose on jars and exploit holes in packets of flour. A tell-tale trail of ants can be seen going from the bathroom to the pantry, so we can see when we've screwed up. Just keeping the honey and sugar pot clean can do wonders if you have kids. We just re-seal the food and they go away pretty soon. Containers that seal are vital, of course.
