It definitely serves as a good reminder of how much grease and oil it's covered in. Speaking of school, I used to take a heap of leftovers the next day to share around at lunch. Good times. Maybe my craving is more nostalgic than anything

    • If you actually see how KFC is made you will never eat it

Tell us how it's made then?

      • +2

The chicken is just rolled in flour (with the secret spices) and lowered into a deep fryer for a little while, it's not that bad as long as you're not eating it regularly

        • +3

yes I am actually very familiar with how it was made, just need that guy to justify his statement when he said:

If you actually see how KFC is made you will never eat it

a tad too much I should say

    • This is why I don't cook. Every time I how food is cooked, I never want to eat it again.

    • Also worked at KFC for a few years. Still crave it all the time and love a good zinger

  • If people buy them then i why not?

Would i buy em hell to da no

I like my meat but I don't like the way it's sourced. Would gladly try alternatives. I can't wait for lab-grown meat to become mainstream and affordable.

Edit: I must add that I do not like KFC chicken. I have been drawn in by the amazing smells a few times in the past and promptly regret my decision. The grease just doesn't do it for me.

I fully support the move to plant based 'meat' products. I recently tried Beyond Burger's product and was quite impressed. When put into a burger and not told what they're eating, I bet many people wouldn't pick the difference. Lower greenhouse gas emissions, lower red meat consumption, no need to kill an animal to get at the good bits. What's there not to like?

The only issue I have is the price: these products are novel and therefore expensive. Woolworths is selling plant based 'fish' for $40/kg. Sorry, I get can premium salmon fillets for that. No deal.

      What's there not to like?

Different nutrient and satiation values mostly. But I agree - it actually tastes pretty great.

    • no need to kill an animal to get at the good bits

      Pick one
      * Kill; or
      * Extinct

If you can't eat it, then what purpose does it serve?

      • -1

        Extinct.

Most domesticated animals are franken-types modified over many years and would be better off not existing, and certainly would not be able to sustain themselves and/or breed without human intervention. Those that do exist already would be better not exploited until they die their own natural deaths.

        • -1

Yeah nah. Fk that. I need my protein.

          Modified domesticated

What are you on mate. So vegetables and fruits aren't. Does that mean we shouldn't eat veges too.

          • @No ONE: Vegetables and fruits don't care about themselves - so modify them all you want.

If you could have animals that didn't care about themselves then modify/eat/mutilate/exploit them too - but arguably no such animals exist, definitely not the types we most routinely modify and exploit.

BTW you have a very 19th century view of protein if you think animals are necessary sources.

            • @afoveht:

BTW you have a very 19th century view

Thanks for the analysis. Nothing wrong with 19th century view. Nowadays people identify themselves as patatos. Whatever sail your boat, go with it.

              • @No ONE: Id you love the 19th century then perhaps you should get rid of your car and stop having regular showers too?

                • @afoveht: How about you mind your own business and stop interfering with other people's life style.

                  • @No ONE: spoken by someone who says

If you can't eat it, then what purpose does it serve?

When will you stop interfering with other sentient beings' entire lives?

                    • @afoveht: Oh you misery. Domestic Animals are food & are not people. They don't have lifestyle.

                      • @No ONE: So you get to define something called "lifestyle" on your own terms and decide who does and doesn't have it. Guess this convo is closed.

Cows, chickens, pigs, etc will never be extinct as long as there's a market for them. It's fanciful to suggest plant based 'meat' products are going to lead to the extinction of these animals.

  • +2

I've never understood why vegans want food that looks and tastes like meat, but isn't actually meat.

When you put it the other way around the absurdity becomes more obvious…

I mean imagine a carrot made out of meat but that looks and tastes like a real carrot, who in their right mind would want a thing like that? lol

    • Someone who hates animals and loves carrots.

    • To be fair I'm guessing you struggle to undestand lots of things though.

    • +1

I agree. Kind of defeats the purpose of the health aspect when your eating something processed to fek with chemicals and everything else added for the taste and texture.

      • +1

Defeats the health aspect when you cut out the meat. No healthy reason to cut down on chicken meat.

    • +2

Hey mate, I think you have a misunderstanding of why most people choose to go vegan. It's not that they don't like the taste of meat, but because they don't like to support unnecessary animal cruelty.

  • +1

I'd give it a go. I've tried a few different meat free "meats" that are meant to taste just like meat.. So far they've all tasted like crap and I've thrown them out. But worth a shot!

I wouldnt try it but I welcome it. Good to be inclusive and also it makes sense for business.
KFC has done amazingly well in some countries like India offering vegetarian options.

    • +1

I would like to see KFC do an Indian style range like Maccas did before (though it wasn't Indian), when the olympics were on. It could be the crispy chicken, with a different sauce drizzled on?

  • +1

there is a bit of a faux pas for vegetarian foods, so I won't read the other comments here.
I never really get the hatred some people have. I think it's because they have pre-conceived notions of vegans and vegetarians being up themselves but this isn't always the case and the prejudice is pretty appalling.
anyway I'd be happy to try meat-free KFC. I think a lot of the appeal is in the herbs & spices and coating they use anyway.
the Quorn brand fake chicken is fairly convincing. I don't think it's a stretch to have mock-meat KFC.

it's all about inclusiveness. Imagine the group of friends, some omnis (meat eaters) and some veggos. They could dine together at KFC.
A lot of people have to skip meat for health reasons, and a lot of them for ethical reasons.
Nothing wrong with being ethical or health-conscious.

  • I’ve done a survey from kfc this week about vegetarian nuggets.
Would you buy/ expect from to be more/same/less.

Looks like they are checking to see if this would be popular in Australia.
