Modmic/External Mic for PC Gaming Setup

Hey all, wanted to get opinions on who currently uses a pair of headphones (like yahamas, audiotechnicas, etc) and combines it with an external mic for communication/gaming. What are you using?

It seems like the reddit opinion is to get a "Modmic" that seem to be on amazon for around 111$ for the newest one (Modmic 5). So want to make sure before I drop that much.

I would be combining it with a pair of ATH-m50x's.

Also, any deals for these types of things around?

Yeah, getting a good pair of headphones with a good mic attached is hard, so most people just do it seperately and mod mic is usually the best add on for it. You don't have to get a mod mic 5, you can get the cheaper version (ver 4) on amazon for $71.

Pccasegear, scorptec and mwave have a good selection (including modmic) at a good price if you are nearby, also pccasegear have m50x and modmic in a bundle for $259 if you dont have the headphones yet.

Blue snowball is also okay at around $100 or you can cheap it out and get a Zalman for $15-20 if you don't really use mic that much, . Got a samson go mic myself since I liked the portability and it gets power from usb.

    PS avoid phantom power anything.

    • Thanks alot for that, great info.

I use the first generation mod mic. To be honest I normally use a desktop mic but they are always cheap ones and break after a year or two.

Mod mic craps me having another cable laying around and makes the desk seems untidy - but has lasted a long time as a solid backup.
