  • Friday afternoon at 3PM at Metcentre Woolworths in Sydney

    • how much % does it usually markdown by?

    • Where is the Metcentre one?
I only know Town hall WW

  • Depends on place. Best to have a friendly chat in store to stocker or seli counter.

They have a clearence section there and I always find meats on half price

  • Depends on the store. I know the times for my local and get amazing bargains, specifically time my shopping for that period. And there must be a high percentage of Ozbargainers around because I can pick the markdown hunters straight away..
Anyone else find that Coles does MUCH better markdowns than Woolies?? Woolies is a disappointment 90% of the time but always happy with my Coles hauls. I don't buy any reduced items until they are marked down to at least 75% off.

    • Woolies often markdown once and then you'll find it's expired.

    • "Anyone else find that Coles does MUCH better markdowns than Woolies?? "

I've found items about to expire past their sell date and just asked the manager to discount it further. They always have.

      FYI

No, I'm not looking to speak to someone who works at a Woolworths or Coles about what days/times are the best to shop for markdowns on meats etc, but thanks for asking.

    • You'd have to find someone who works at the store you shop at, they are all different.

My local starts marking stuff down about 7pm every day.

  • Yes, I'd like to speak to a Woolworths or Coles employee about meat discounts. Can you hook me up, OP?

  • I usually find Sunday night at about 11pm onwards in Supermarkets the prices become discounted

I think my local Woolworths deliberately stopped doing the meat markdowns at a specific time. Used to be around 9.30am each day, but then I started to see too many people hanging around waiting. Now it seems to be random times. Sometimes I get lucky, other times not.

Also I notice our Woolworths has reduced the stock holdings, particularly since the price of meat has skyrocketed. They'd rather have empty shelves to some extent than discount leftovers.

    • Pretty much same with the Woolies I frequent…
Bread used to be discounted at 5pm like clockwork. Not anymore.

      And at 11pm used to be 90% off I.e. 50 or 60c :( they stopped doing that too… it's 50% off max

It all depends on the store and managers I think
