Reports of Australian Super not honouring Frequent Flyer Points sign up deal

I was thinking about doing this deal, Australian Super was offering 20,000 points to sign up with them and deposit $350 but I have found a number of complaints. They are telling people they did not sign up through the link

Really? Wow… I just joined via the link
    ..

    .:(

    • I would call and cnfirm with them tomorrow that is is all correct and ask for it in writing

  • Are you able to take screenshots etc that show the relevant information during signup?

    • someone said he produced his browser history and they refused

  • hearsay.

    • its more than that, these are legitimate complaints, I jsut confirmed with one of them

      • yeah, but it's not you. Therefore it's hearsay.

Title should be "Reports of Aus Super not honoring Frequent Flyer Points sign up deal"

        Then an explanation or warning.

        Explanation

        Example my post

        • okay, I just edited

            @screensaver:

            . Bunch of crooks.

Just write it as a 3rd person. Its really not that difficult

            '<link to deal>

x of my friends have signed up for this offer, however they have all had it rejected because they [allegedly] did not click through the sign up link.

Has anyone else had the same issue, how do i prove i will get the points if i do sign up?'

            something like that.

            • @Davo1111: I have edited it. These people saaid they waited months to be told they are not getting the points. They were not rejected at the time

              • @screensaver: easy fixed. Withdraw your money and go elsewhere and tell them why. They've just done themselves out of 40 years of managing your money and associated fees.

  • Who exactly are these people who are complaining ? Do you know them ? How do you know that their complaints are genuine ?

For the record, I signed up with them back in May, and I got the points without any issues. Overall, I'm really satisfied with Oz Super.

  • There are 4 cpmplaints that I know of on the Qantas page and 1 on their page, that;s without looking for more

Got my points without any issues

    • How long did your points took to arrive?

    • Same, was within weeks of my first contribution. Now closed the account.

Mods if this is not allowed, please remove it. I have already decided not to do the deal based on these reports. Just felt it was worth sharing, that this is allegedly happening

  • Joined on the 15th of May, deposited a few days later, got my points on the 2nd of June.

  • I'd take a few random online complaints with a huge grain of salt. This sort of thing is usually entirely automated so if there are issues it's going to hit a lot more than 4 people. They would have over 1000 people join every week so any identified issues would be heavily investigated.

AustralianSuper (like some other large funds) have a 3rd party administrator that gets paid bucketloads of money to handle all their applications & contact centre work. If you were getting the runaround, I would lodge a formal complaint - those would have to be reported to AustralianSuper, whereas the contact centre staff at the administrator can give you a 'computer says no' answer without consequence.

    • I feel for these people who signed up in good faith and I believe them about the link, because you have to validate your frequent flyer number. These people could be just the tip of the iceberg.

      • I agree - it could be the tip of the iceberg, but equally it might just be some people stuffed up. We really have no way of knowing unless APRA or the complaints tribunal start getting involved and publicly slapping AustralianSuper.

But honestly I would say that you personally are more likely to be fine than the average citizen. Ozbargainers have a lot of practice with using internet sites/links in specific ways to get things like cashback and double-stack coupons to work. I would be more inclined to believe some internet randoms stuffed up and did something weird e.g. clicking the link then browsing elsewhere, or pausing for 24 hours midway through the application, which has caused whatever backend magic to break.

And if you wanted to give yourself backup - then use screen recording software (e.g. snagit) while you do your application and you have video proof you used the right link. There's no way they could knock back that kind of proof.

  • I signed up via the link and got the points very quickly after making the deposit.

  • Got my points pretty quickly.

  • My wife and I got our points quickly after the money went into the superfund.

  • I got my points

  • My husband, my son and I all got our points without an issue.

Maybe I'm the lucky one, but:
    25aug -opened account
    29aug -Deposited $388 via BPay
    9sept -received 20k qff
    10sept -super balance $386.76, after $2.25 fee

    I have done:
1 phone call confirming personal contribution is eligible for bonus qff
1 short email asking if they can verify I have opened my account using Qantas link.

    • when did you send the email and did they reply?

      • I think sometime last week. Definitely few days after the deposit shows up on my account.
        And Now I realise, they didn't reply….

        • okay, looks like phone call is best

  • just called. they refuse to honour me 20000 QFF. An Austrlian owned company with a russian accent unfriendly woman operator!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Go SxxK Shits

  • did you sign up via link?

  • Is everyone just closing these accounts after receiving the points?
