Painting Protection and Leather Protection

Hi All,

I am looking for a recommendation for Painting and Leather Protection in Sydney - North Shore area. Does anyone know who is good and how much it will be roughly.

Background: I just purchased a new Car Mazda CX9 Azami LE. I wanted to know how much Painting and Leather Protection will cost around my area. I got 2 children and rarely wash my car so I think it's good to have them.

So, if anyone has any recommendation and a rough price estimate, it will be much appreciated. Thank you.

  • It's priceless.

  • Slap on some nufinish for paint

If someone has told you that getting paint protection means you no longer have to wash your car, they're lying. The dirt isn't simply going to slide off your paint and you'll still need to wash it.

No one told me that I will never need to wash my car. I was simply implying that since I rarely wash my car, I am hoping an extra layer of protection with lifetime warranty will help protect the car paint etc. To keep the car value and paint in the next 5 or 10 years given how lazy I am.

Paint protection will be $800 - $1000 for Opticoat Pro Plus.
Leather protection will be $15.59 if you're quick for Protectant 303.

If the car stays undercover for most of its life (spy?), you can skip the paint protection. The difference will be minimal.

    • for others, Opticoat is ceramic coating not usual snake oil. highly recommend it.

  • In my experience, paint protection and leather protection are pretty much like the extended warranties that HN love to sell along with their appliances. It's only my opinion, but for my 2 cents, don't bother and save your dosh.

Funnily enough, in the last 5 years, while they still do offer paint protection and stuff, I no longer see the Ming-moles in our local dealerships.

    • They still very much exist.

As someone who sold the stuff for a living.
    It’s not worth it.
It’s overpriced (like true wholesale cost is $100-$150 and they charge $800+

While it talks about car dealers selling aftermarket etc it has a lot of good points which relate to pain and leathers protection.

  • and rarely wash my car

As above, if you never wash your car then the paint will degrade no matter what. Save the money and pay someone to wash it now and then

The protection will do little to nothing under those circumstances. Best bet would be saving the money now - and paying for a professional detail before selling.

You would benefit greatly by washing the car now and then, even if it is only to get the main bugs & bird poo off the car to prevent them eating away at it

  • Call some reputable detailers in your area for a quote on ceramic coating. There should be decent options for under $1k available to you with products / brands the likes of opticoat, gyeon, etc. I have my cars coated and it makes cleaning them a hell of a lot easier. Needs redoing every 5 years though. Good luck.
