Splitting bill - table service

Does anyone have any ideas for splitting the bill at a bar which only offers table service and provides one bill at the end of the night? Everyone will need to pay for what they order, but people may come and go throughout the night. Thank you.

Take a photo of the final bill, send it to a group chat, rely on honour system?

      Always works for my groups

How close are you to the people?

We use an app called Splitwise, everyone needs to register and calculate costs onto that. You'd have to know who ordered what though and enter the receipt amounts into the app.

Otherwise, pay your share as you leave.

+1 for splitwise. Been using it for years.

Tell everyone ahead of the event that it is cash only.
Everyone pays as they order, or as they leave; nominate someone to be treasurer.

    You can use Beam it

I also recommend Beam It. Like it or not… we're moving into a cashless world so best get you and your mates onboard.

Cashless yes , Cardless with everyone agreeing on the same app to split bills - no chance

      • It's arguably the most popular in Australia and will only get bigger.

    Find a different bar ;)

True ozbargainer asks everyone to bring cash. Then they pay for it all on their own awards earning cc.

Truest ozbargainer doesn't go out at all though.

Truest-er ozbargainers invites all the friends to their place and sells them the drinks…?

  • My mates either Beam it, or they take a photo of the receipt and we just it back later if you trust the people.

Just don't be the one holding the bill at the end.

sometimes holding the bill is an advantage
eg. credit card reward points goes all to you
Also if you rounded the bill up (per person) to make it easier for everyone to pay cash, your net contribution is less (not intentionally trying to scam your friends but that's what happens)
      eg $30pp instead of $29.13pp

  • Another vote for Beem… I use it regularly when I have breakfast out with colleagues :)

  • Thanks I didn’t expect so many answers!

Is there an advantage of beem over just sending everyone my bank account details?

    • +3

It’s easier than entering a BSB and acc number

  • +3

beem is instant. and if you want, you can send a request for payment.

  • +3

PayID if everyone is set up for it if not then Beemit

  • +4

Friends like Beem it but I prefer simple PayID. Better sorted out there at the table than later.

  • Splitwise or Beem it.

Assuming no one ordered a $600 scotch. One person pays, divides bill by no of people and sends to group chat.

    Pay via payID. Job done

Beem it is owned by CBA, Westpac and NAB while PayId is owned by ANZ. Choose your poison wisely… ;)

    • +1

Since when does ANZ own PayID?

      • +1

Sorry, beer-brain 🥴 ANZ uses Apple Pay, along with Google Pay (formerly Android Pay), Fitbit Pay, Garmin Pay and Samsung Pay, in addition to its own Mobile Pay platform. It does not own PayId.

Next time, I'll get someone to hold my beer while I type.
