HSBC Global Everyday vs Citi Global Currency account for travel in NZ??

Hi Ozbs. I am travelling to NZ for holidays in November and wondering which is a better option amongst HSBC Global everyday account vs Citi Global currency account in terms of foreign conversion fees, exchange rates, ATM availability and general use. I have heard Citi is generally better but can someone share personal experiences. Thanks in advance.

  • ING card. No fees when withdrawing from atm all over the world. And their saving gives decent interest not like HSBC or Citi.

    • Thanks ChiMot. I thought Citi didn't have any fees! Moreover, I already have Citi and HSBC and don't want to pile up any more cards. Thanks

  • HSBC uses their own ripoff conversion rates if I recall correctly
Citibank wont reimburse ATM fees. ING is the only sure way to go

  • oh okay…looks like I will have to get one ING now!!

  • I have got a Bankwest MasterCard CC.Do you guys recommend using the Bnakwest CC wherever possible and where not possible, I use the ING account. Will this combination work out to be the best? TIA

    • Can anyone post the replies to this question? Is Bankwest CC plus ING debit card the best overall option?

  • ING have the best ATM withdrawals (provided you meet monthly criteria)
Free ATM Withdrawals (any ATM, anywhere in the world). They also rebate any ATM fees you may get charged.
Just make sure you always select the local currency (NZD) if ever offered an option (ATM / POS).

Depending on the kind of places you'll be going to, (like Aus) some places in NZ charge card fees / surcharges / international card fees or don't take card at all. Even if they accept card it's sometimes only EFTPOS (not compatible with AU EFTPOS).

    • So you think not using the CC is a better option then? In that case, is the currency conversion rate good with ING?
