Reading the discussion in this thread makes me sick. Are you narrow minded hicks that devoid of a purpose in life that you need to have an opinion on someone else's decision to eat meat or not?

    • +2

      The thought police never sleeps.

  • +1

Finally a Burger deal i can get without asking for the source of the meat! Thanks :)

  • I tried this today and ehh…5/10. I had high expectations but it just doesn't taste as good as a real beef patty. Still a good deal though!

  • +1

    What's the price?

    • Probably more exxy than real meat?

      • $3 more for the beyond patty for any burger.

  • Out of stock of Beyond patties at Grill'd Northland @ 7.15pm. Peak dinner time hasn't even started haha.

They are replacing Beyond patties with Veggie patties and honouring the deal still though

    • +1

So veggie burgers cost more than real meat too?

  • +8

Never would've expected to see so many ignorant comments from scared little people who've managed to work themselves up over non-existant issues.

Imagine being bothered at all, let alone personally offended and angry, because plant-based alternatives exist and are offered? Gosh. Noone is confiscating your meat or force-feeding you fruit & vegetables. Get a grip on yourselves and let people eat what they want to eat, even if it happens to be ethical and environmentally responsible (heaven forbid).

Anyway, I had the Beyond Chipotle for lunch and it actually blew me away. Super delicious. I've been wanting to try this for a long time, and now I really wish these were this price all the time. I won't bring myself to pay $17 for a burger on its own (with cheese), but will be back for the remaining Mondays this month, assuming I can rope a colleague into going halves.

    • +1

      Had Beyond Chipotle today… yuummmm!

The prices will go down as production scales up. Impossible Foods is still relatively small company compared to the multi billion, fat and heavily-lobbying M&D industry they are against.

ps: the first lab prototypes years ago costed them thousands of dollars each; there's a few documentaries on Youtube.

Yeah it doesn't harm anyone if grill'd offer alternatives. It's not like they're replacing regular burgers and forcing this on us.
Also makes it easier to go out with a large group of people as grill'd caters for everyone.

That said, I tried the burger and found it to be horrible. Won't eat it again.

    A surprisingly well-thought-out critique of Beyond/Impossible Burgers … written by a vegan.

They lost me when they said heme is a "relatively new compound"…. just lol

Thaks to the OP, tried these yesterday at Grill'd, Marion, SA. Neither of us are vegetarians, but me and the wife think it can't be a bad thing to not have meat for a day. We were both really impressed by the burger - had a great grilled / BBQ'd flavour.

    Did anyone try this?

I had one and found it revolting.

It looks and smells like meat, but tastes like coconut oil and has a crunchy texture similar to toast.
It also left a nasty aftertaste.

Despite being high in calories, it doesn't feel as filling as a normal beef patty.

Did anyone try it and like it? If so, did you usually eat meat?

    • My colleague said it tasted like coconut oil to her too. I actually couldn't taste that and found it really delicious. Interesting.

    • I had one when Ribs & Burgers handed out free ones about half a year back.

That one was awful, so bad in fact that I got close to throwing up. But it is entirely possible that it just wasn't cooked properly.

I am in two minds as to whether I ever want to try one again. I see the environmental benefits of reducing meat consumption, but for now I rather just cut down on portion sizes of the real thing instead of replacing it with something that makes my stomach revolt.

      • The one I got at Ribs and Burgers then wasn't great - charred on the outside, but not hot inside.

I had one tonight at Grill'd and it seemed better. Took a long time to come out though. (Not sure if longer than normal compared to meat)

    • Mine was good. It had a raw meat colour and fine grated carrot texture but the burger tasted just like a normal Grill'd burger.

Edit: yes I normally eat meat

  • What is the point of the beyond bacon and cheese burger? It's real bacon and cheese, right?

    • +1

Why not? If a beyond burger patty was indeed a nice replacement for a beef one (not sure about that, see my comment above), it would help reduce your environmental footprint and possibly be healthier too. Doesn't mean you have to make do without the extras that aren't as easily replaced.

    • Read the site. It's for those on the fence, to ease into going meat free.

  • Hi guys, while everyone is fighting, may I know what is the cheapest price of Beyond Burger? I want to try it out today, but I'm poor af hence an ozbargainer so I want to know here first if my budget can afford it.

    • +2

If you're actually poor, there are vastly better ways to spend food money than these things, even @ 2-4-1 pricing.

    • Probably the cheapest way to try them is buying them from Coles and cooking them yourself: https://shop.coles.com.au/a/a-national/product/the-beyond-bu… 2 patties for $12

    • You won't find one less than $12 or $15.
Places have them for free though in the rare promotional event. I've had free Beyond burgers from 3 different restaurants.
Grilld is probably on the cheaper side when it comes to Beyond burgers.
Also better to have these from a restaurant than home made/prepped IMO.
However Quorn have brought out their version of this patty which is cheaper or you can try Beyond from Coles in the meat section.

      • Have you tried it from Coles? I'm curious how much of the smokey/charred flavour is built in, or is it they way they cook them?

        • +1

I've cooked them at home in a cast iron skillet. Still pretty good compared to the ones I've had from Grill'd and Lord of the Fries.

  • can we have a vote button for everyone who tried it? good or not?

  • If you want to try it at 2 for 1 prices then do so. Wouldn't pay full price or the premium price over the normal veggie burgers. It actually tastes less healthy than the normal veggie burgers.

  • +1

This thread is hilarious. It's like copypasta all over again from when Hungry Jacks brought out their vegan cheeseburger. So many triggers.

  • +1

I was worried about having to dine in but they offered it as takeaway so I got them as takeaway.😁

    • Noice!

  • +2

Just tried it out. Looked and felt a bit different to a beef patty but tasted just as good. Recommended!

  • Reflecting on this deal and this comments section.. it's totally weird that so many people are agro over a company making a plant based product be more meat like. More like meat, you known, that thing you love.. they are doing this for you! why would you not want more things like the thing you love?! It's totally weird

    • -1

Actually, what is weird is being so easy to fool that a chemical slurry that "looks like" something good is seen as basically the same thing.

      • chemical slurry that "looks like" something good

A normal burger has never been something good, that's why it's a sometimes food. It's highly processed just like the Beyond burger. Animals are pumped full of antibiotics and regularly consume chemicals in their feed from insecticides (but hey, let's only market this as no hormones on TV!).

Both are not something good, so might as well flip a coin over the lesser of two evils.

        • It's highly processed just like the Beyond burger.

Ah yeah, sure. Have you even bothered to think about that in any way? Looked at the ingredient list of a Beyond burger?

          • @mickeyjuiceman: Yes I have looked at the ingredients list. I've also looked at the excessive amount of water waste and extra pollution that goes to making meat patties, plus that highly processed red meat is defined as a group 1 carcinogen by the Australian Cancer Council

They both have a less than ideal process to get to your plate and probably a less than ideal effect on your body. I repeat, flip a coin.

            • @LikeMike: "Neither are perfect therefore they're the same" is reductionist in the extreme.

              • @mickeyjuiceman: Never said they are the same and both aren't even anywhere close to being perfect due to being highly processed. You're the one trying to pass off a normal burger as something good when it's clearly not.

Again, added chemicals we've not yet seen long term exposure to vs a certified group 1 carcinogen. Flip a coin.

This argument is just going to go around in circles because both have a list of positives and negatives. Might as well move onto xbox vs ps4.

                • @LikeMike: "a certified group 1 carcinogen"

                  And that would be?

The seed oil they cook with, I guess.

                  • @mickeyjuiceman:

The seed oil they cook with, I guess.

You guess because processed red meat on it's own couldn't possibly cause cancer? A certified group 1 carcinogen means a level of cancer has definitely been established on the product.

If you were trying to argue a steak dinner vs a chemical slurry then I'd probably say have your steak some days, though not at the portion size most Aussies think is normal. Your argument seems to be that a chemical slurry is worse than what the Australian Cancer Council and the World Health Organisation classifies as a group 1 carcinogen. I agree there's no evidence on the chemical slurry yet, hence flip a coin.

                    So… PS4 vs Xbox?

Looks like it’s not only September Mondays now. They removed dates from the website and call it simply meetless mondays.

    • They should include the regular vegetarian burgers … or is this thing sponsored by "Beyond Meat"?

I don't mind it being sponsored; 2 for 1 on Grill'd Burgers is good :)

  • It's times like this it sucks being single… I don't have anyone to go not enjoy it with and if I really don't like it I have to eat two…

    • Maybe it's an opportunity to proposition another single person in the queue! ;)

  • +1

Just saw a FB ad that this deal is back on tomorrow. Not sure how long for - but they have taken the September dates out of the terms and conditions and now says: "offer valid on Mondays only"
