Digital Camera - Great service received under extended warranty :)

I received great service and wanted to share the story :) (Hoping that's okay with Scotty and OzPete)

It might be helpful to people wondering where to get a camera (who want good service) :)

  • Hi all,

I've been using a Canon IXUS 60. Mentioned here.

So I've been pretty happy with it. Unfortunately, mine stopped working about a year after the manufacturer warranty expired.

When turning it on, it made an unpleasant grinding noise, and the lens would not focus. If I was lucky. If I wasn't as lucky, it would turn on, show black on the screen after grinding, and would just say restart the system. (whatever that means)

Anyways, it was purchased from Ted's camera stores under extended warranty, and still had a year to go. I took it in to them, and they advised me 4 to 6 weeks.

The other day, I realised, 4 to 6 weeks could be after I head out to the countryside with some friends, for the long weekend. After chatting with the repairer and the store, some really good things happened.

    1. the repairer was able speed up the evaluation for me
    2. Ted's decided they would replace the camera with a new Canon IXUS 80 IS instead of repairing the old one
    3. When the lady at Ted's heard that I had a friend's birthday at a Tepanyaki restaurant (where food gets thrown for people to catch :) ) she rang around and got the approvals pushed through faster, to get me the new camera that day, instead of having to wait till later the next week :)
    4. I got to take out a new 2 year extended warranty on the new camera :)

So, if it's okay with the moderators, I thought this was exceptional service, and a wonderful outcome, making this a great bargain worth mentioning, along with the names of those who helped out …

So if buying a camera, I'd recommend considering the following:

    1. buying from Ted's with extended warranty
    2. buying specifically from Ted's in Doncaster, asking for Karen. She was so helpful, it'd be nice to think some of that goodness could be returned (plus she gave such good service, you might want that)
    3. if you do buy from her, maybe mention that the Tepanyaki birthday guy recommended her. I'm not getting anything in return, but it might be nice for her, knowing a good deed that she did was rewarded

If repairing your camera, www.camera-clinic.com were the ones who helped me too :)

Anyways, I'm off to get some urgent stuff done, and then write some thank you cards to Karen and camera-clinic :)

    A very happy customer :)

  • Thanks for sharing the story!

  • :)

  • Why not share great experiences - a bargain isn't always just price. To me a bargain in value for money, and great service is part of that. Thanks and lets hope Ted recognises Karen for her good work. (Although having sold the real Ted a computer 25+ years ago when he was in Pitt St, I suspect he's no longer directing the show.

    • How about bad experience? I have 1 atm ;)

    • Thanks OzPete :)
