  • I got the Aldi cast iron pan from last deal and everything sticks.
I've tried everything.. Done seasoning 2 times. Don't wash with detergent. Preheat it..
    Any more suggestions highly appreciated..!

Which one ? Do you heat up the pan prior to using it And make sure the oil is hot before putting food into the pan? How did you season it?

      • I got the flat one not the grill one. I heat it up for almost 8-10 minutes on medium heat before cooking. I seasoned it with vegetable oil 2 times 1 hr each in oven's highest settings.

        • Put oil first, spread that and then use butter on top and then cook your meal. Repeat until it develops a nice season

    • No oil, no smoothness and all stickiness.

    • What are you cooking on it that sticks?

I only applied a very light coat of canola oil and then wiped it down with a paper towel, before even using it. It's preseasoned.

If you really are struggling, try using some coconut oil spray. I cook eggs that way, they will slide around.

      • I'm cooking beef patties.. I have seasoned it so don't apply oil.. Will try with coconut oil spray..! Thanks

    • Just looking at the photo, the surface of these look very rough and uneven. While they may look nice and rusticy, I’d think that it would be more prone to sticking due to the uneven surface. I also think that a 2x seasoning might be woefully inadequate for first time use. I don’t use the pans I bought awhile back very often, but I think I seasoned them 5 or 6 times.

      Try making it HOTTER.

  • Wooden handles probably won't be oven safe.

    • I think the set is primarily designed for campfire use, not with an oven.

      • What temperature does wood burn at?

These are likely oven safe at normal temps, most likely your oven won't get hot enough to burn them anyway.

Wrap the handles in foil if you're that worried

bought some aldi ones and while good for the price lodge is way better

    • Lodge are smoother. You can grind them down to smooth them. I've owned both and haven't had a problem with either, even though I've just started using the Aldi ones. As with all cast iron, they get better with use.

We recently picked up last years set - which looks identical - for $50.

As mentioned above the wooden handles on the pans might not be so good as solid ones.
The Dutch oven lid does not seal 100% and the kettle is rather thin enamel.
However even at $99 it's much cheaper than buying individual pieces, so a good starting point for those new to camping.

I do like the jaffle iron though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WLvCnCapAQ
(these are usually $20-25 on special at camping stores)
