Best Way to Sign up to 36 Months Game Pass Ultimate as New User?

Hi everyone, been looking to opt in for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for a while now. The inclusion of MGS2/3 HD this week has tipped me over! As well as looking forward to that Outer Worlds PC release.

I've seen the deals for converting existing Gold memberships to Ultimate to $1 or something like that, but not sure exactly how it works.

I've never paid for Gold or Game Pass as of yet. I do have a bunch of XBL Gold free trials included in some retail copies of games. I have used a 2-day XBL Gold trial once, however.

Someone please help me out here, what is the best way to hop on 36 months of Game Pass Ultimate currently?

It works pretty much as it says it will. I signed up to Game Pass with this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/478060 (20 days) then took 3 months for $10.95 (90 days) from Microsoft and finally the two months for $2 Ultimate deal (60 days).

That gave me 170 days for $12.95. The order is important. The conversion to Ultimate must be last. I was relieved Microsoft didn't retract the Ultimate deal after I had taken up other deals (I feared they would) but that was just my case.

I was almost planning on buying XBox Gold 12 months and then the conversion for $81.95 but that takes me from 7.6c/day to 19.2c/day.

OzBargain geeking aside my point is this: use conversion to your advantage but you may get a better deal if you take shorter periods. As with most bargain-hunting: fortune favours those who take their time and keep a keen eye on the bargain sites.

My final point is in 36 months you (probably) learned to walk, talk and use a toilet. If you're under 30, 36 months is more than one-tenth of your life. Even if you're 40, it's a significant fraction. Yeah my gaming habits didn't change and XBox Gold has been great. But there'll almost certainly be another deal when your subscription finishes and you could find yourself going amish for the right girl/boy in the meantime.

    • Haha thanks for the reply, informative and got some cheeky bits in there! If I'm understanding this correctly then, the aim is to stack as much XBL Gold as you want, and then top it off with either the month for $1 or two months for $2 Ultimate deal to convert your existing membership to Ultimate.

Just want to double check, you said you finalised the deal with the two months for $2 Ultimate deal. Did this successfully convert your whole membership to Ultimate? I read a comment somewhere that the two months for $2 deal didn't upgrade his whole membership.

The hunt is on to find the cheapest XBL Golds then.
