How many containers are you after ?

Whoever you're buying from over there should be able to give you a shipping quote based on qty and size. I had 8 pallets come and I think at was around $1300. Then more for someone here to handle the rest

Shipping a container from CN to AU is cheap. The fees for getting it from the dock to your door is where it will hurt.

If you are buying a container worth of stuff you can just approach the containerized shipping lines direct (Maersk, MSC), arrange for someone to pack the container and drop it off at the Chinese Docks and then collect it from the Australian docks… though you will need to do homework about paperwork for customs.

If your only after a half container worth of goods, or dont have someone to pack it for you, or cant get it to the docks in china, you can use a freight forwarder (likely your best bet). They will pack the container (and likely fill the other part of the container with someone elses goods) and can arrange everything including delivery. They will obviously charge you labour, admin fees but split the shipping cost among the relevant parties.

Dont know about shipping costs from China to AU, but a while ago i was looking at a 40" foot container to Australia from Belgium and it was around 1400 USD I think.

A 40 inch foot container? Is that some kind of novelty-sized shoe?

FWIW, generally speaking engaging a forwarder for LCL will cost you about as much as FCL and involves delays on every aspect — i.e. they won't load until they've sourced a full can worth of goods, have to xdock it once it reaches Aus to process your goods away from everyone else's. It's not huge, but can add about another week all else being equal.

For those not down with the lingo - FCL = Free China Liberation and LCL means Living Chinese Life.

You need to pack it in something they would not expect. Also, coffee beans help mask the smell.
