Keep seeing these type of posts and tempted to get into the board game craze.

Does anyone have an articles that try to explain the rise in popularity of these things?

It's not the same reason as those stupid funko dolls is it?

Please, I can't lose any more faith in society!

I think it is because it is something you can do with people in person.

Say you used to have people around and play video games and you can't really do that anymore. You can do that with board games and it encourages much more social interaction than video games ever did.

Also a good excuse to catch up with people. That is my experience anyway YMMV.

Just a fun activity to do with friends. I wouldn’t call it a new craze. It’s always been a thing.

        • I meant "new craze" as in its something your
          " average" does now.

The geek in the title would of only had bought in a certain customer base at one stage.

Oh how I miss the phantom zone.

That place would be making so much money now!

        wait I don't understand if you're serious.

Board game popularity have been rising with cheaper cross border distributions and growing appeals of nostalgia.

Modern board gaming are leaps ahead than the classics (risk, cluedo, battleship, stuff like that) because modern board game designers spend a lot of effort and research into developing mechanisms that inspires "fun".

These focus on human interaction between players, involvement and interest in other players turns, beautiful artwork and craftmanship (most of them anyway), and rewards and point scoring systems that release a steady flow of dopamine to our brain, making players feel rewarded.

Thank for your listening to my Ted Talk.

NB: Board Game Reviewers Shut up and Sit Down presents a talk on why board games are taking off https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfhdEk-drSk.

        • Ah cool
Was hoping for an answer like this.
          Thanks man

If that's your opinion, why are you upvoting the deal?

        • I dunno man

All those pop vynils and what not are stupid. But board games can be a fun investment with friends. Cheaper than a group of 6 going to the movies and with much more replay value.

        • Yeah man definitely.

I miss card and boardgames from when I was kid

Sadly as someone with no friends or family. I don't know if settlers of catar is for me.

I'll just watch the awesome 30 Rock episode instead.

  • Has anyone received an order from this or at least a shipping notification? I ordered on 10/9 and haven't heard anything.
I made an order a last year aswell and they didn't send it for weeks. When I contacted them and they eventually got back to me, they claimed there was a stock delay. Can't say I recommend this store when it seems like the second time in a row this has happened.

    • In the deal, I did provide a forewarning here to try our best to manage expectations:
"The sale will run from now till Sunday night, and we will begin to ship the brunt of the games from 18th September. (We have a 2 person team who handles the distribution parttime pls understand)."
You can reach out to us on Facebook with your order ID and we'll see the status of your order.

      • The problem is the lack of communication. It's now the 23rd and the only email I have received is a PayPal notice that I have paid for the goods.

        • Thanks for letting me know. I'll review the automated settings on order updates and so on, we'll make sure the right changes to ensure our customers get proactively contacted regarding their order.
