Looking for a Cheap Portable Hard Drive

I'm looking for a cheap portable hard drive, in the range of around $50-$70. Any suggestions?

If you nudge your budget up slightly, you get much better value for money.

$99 gets you the 3Tb model, also from Officeworks

$33 per Tb is generally the sweet spot for HDDs, and you don't have to wait for sales!

Honestly, I would only buy one that has usb-c. It just means one less cable to carry around - Lacie 1TB for $69.

Like the old saying "if you plan to kill someone, first buy two coffins"…
I reckon you should back-up, your back-up….. I just had a Seagate 2 TB HDD go down with the "death clicks" with 1.2 TB of docs, pics…my life!…….don't want the expense of professional recovery (which, as we know is immense!) still trying to find and consolidate lost info from hard drives, flash drives, cloud etc.

I'm thinking encrypted to the cloud might be a better option - if not definitely SSD in the future.

      Oh no!

Been there, lost that, hence why I was an early cloud adopter. I've got everything in Google Drive, which then ALSO syncs to two separate PCs in different towns so I've got full backups against everything including power surge & theft - one full loss won't affect me in any way.

Google Photos for phone syncing has been the biggest peace of mind I've ever had. Ten seconds between a photo and a successful backup - anywhere I go - is fantastic.

Also, don't put your confidence in SSDs either - I've already had two die on me for no apparent reason in the last year.

      • Thanks for the tips Bud. You are, of course, 100% correct. I am in the process of investigating Google Drive (I like that auditing function for establishing who has access to one's various files…I can use that!)
PS: got about 90% of my files back from the dead drive - I lost Canada, but I'll always have Paris (from now on! lol)
